Ok, I am getting a new guitar to supplement my Strat.

I am looking for a Les Paul, or Explorer new, not used for playing U2 stuff.

I am looking at an Ebony Epiphone 1958 Korina Explorer which is at a good price, and is my first choice, and I am ready to purchase it.

On the other hand, are there any Epiphone Les Pauls that would do the trick?

If I get a Les paul, I think I will later buy this explorer copy, and replace the pickups with Seymour Duncan ones:

I know that it is possible for a lot of U2 songs that Edge plays with an Explorer to be played with a Les Paul.

Any advice?

The Les Paul custom I believe it's called a backbeat ? Or Blackbeat? I have one it's an amazing les Paul ! To me sounds extremely close to a real LP custom at a fraction of the price

Ok, I have discovered that the store where the Explorers are for sale have none left.

I have explored my options, and I have a decision.

I have looked through the various types of Epiphone Les Pauls, and have chosen one: The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top, in Vintage Sunburst.

The specifications such as Pickups sound really good, and the physical construction, tuners and neck of the guitar seem right.

Is this Les Paul right for U2 tones?

IMHO the Epi LPS Pickups are not as warm as the mid-70's era LPS that Edge has favored.

Easy enough fix as there are plenty of decent pickup replacements.

But more important is get it set up proper so that the action and intonation are playable and accurate. Be sure the tuners don't slip and the guitar will stay in tune. Do this and most of the battle is won.

Then there are other factors. What amp are you using. What effects? Are you using quality cables and patch cables. All of these will affect tone.

Is that a chambered body? The description doesn't mention it. You can always upgrade the pots and pickups to help the tone. I always like trying them out before you buy to make sure you like the neck.
