hi guys,

I own this great multi-effects, and maybe some of you that own it too can share some patches...
someone set me a quite good patch for wtshnn... but some specialists among you may have better patches...

thanx

I don't have the 1500, but I can get you started and you can tweak it.

Turn the compression to a high level to get a clicky sound.
Pick an amp modeler that has a warm tone, but you can add a lot of gain without getting distortion.
Set you delay to a digital model at 360 ms with 2-3 repeats. Turn the delay level up quite a bit.
Add some chorus, to get a modulated delay. If you can put this effect after the delay.
Add the reverb to your liking.

Lastly, you have to get Herdim picks so that they snap the strings when you play the riff. This seriously changed the sound so much it was unbelievable. My roomate was never very interested when I would play, but when I got these picks he burst into my room with a holy shit look on his face b/c it was so much closer.

The key thing to the tone is getting a warm tube amp tone that is overdriven with a boosted sound, but not distorted. This is not easy to achieve, but if you buy a booster pedal it can help. The best booster is the Boss FA-1 (Edge uses one), but one went for $340 on ebay yesterday. One of the pedal guys has made a clone of the FA-1 with a couple cool features, on off switch and true bypass. It's called a sweet FA, google it if you're interested. Another option is the MXR microamp. This is good, but sometimes adds a little distortion, instead of clean boost. Also it only has a level control, no tone. The cheapest options, and one of the best is the DOD Bi Fet FX-10. DOD pretty much makes complete shit, except for this pedal. It is a real clean boost, with tone and level controls. Usually runs around $50 used as they don't make them anymore. Google this pedal and you will read some amazing reviews. I use one right at the beginning of my chain and it does wonders to my sound. It really helps me get that chimey Edge sound.

One thing you might try with you pedal though is turning on a distortion, but turn the actual distortion way down. This could give you some boost, but not quite as clean.

Thank you OffAxis!
It will be very helpful. It seems that my Ax1500 is a good tool for my needs, but maybe not enough to close to edge's sound...
thank you for your advices.

i have an ax1500g along with some other pedals, and can get close to some edgey tones. give me a specific song or tone and ill give you the patch as best i can.

for streets:

AMP: none
CAB: 2x12 ac30: air: ln, level: 7.0, pres: 6.3
MODULATION: mod delay: time: 361, feed: 5.3, speed: 1.0, depth: 0.0, mix: 10.0
AMBIENCE: st delay: time: 213, feed: 0.0, tone: 10.0, mix: 5.0

i also have a boss cs-2 compression that i throw in sometimes to warm the tone up a little. but it still sounds ok without it.

this is a double delay effect that works pretty well, mess with the mix levels and feedbacks of each until it sounds to your liking. if you dont have a fender strat, dont bother messing with the tones or amps; 90% of the streets tone comes from the strat.

first off, you'll need a guitar with a humbucker for both songs to get the right tone.

ok, the fly is a toughy because of edge's wah. i havent figured out what works best, an auto wah or a regular wah pedal (i think he uses an auto wah, but sometimes it sounds like a regular wah pedal; it may be both). i cooked this up for the fly in about 15 min; mess with it a little and see what happens:

AMP: Bigfuzz
drive 5.3, level 5.7, trebel 10.0, middle 5.7, bass 8.3
CAB: 4-12 modern
air ln, level 7.0, pres 7.3
MOD: auto wah
time 9.0, depth 1.3, polarity dn
AMBIENCE: echo+
time 420, feedback 2.3, tone 7.3, mix 5.0

with the auto wah polarity in the dn position, it sounds more like the newer version of the fly, switch the polarity up and mess with the depth for older versions; i prefer the newer version. also, if the autowah doesnt do it for you, turn it off and just go with the manual wah pedal or if you have an external pedal, even better. the only thing i dont like about this autowah is you cant adjust the mix or level and sometimes it gets too heavy or high. this is where a compression pedal would help if you have one.

now for elevation you will need a dunlop wah pedal or a whammy for the intro; the pedals on this thing just wont cut it; the pitch shifter is a joke and the wah is too thin compared to a dunlop wah. i have a 535q wah that does the trick fine.

elevation is a little easier in that you just need a good distortion for most of the song (i'd suggest biggfuzz and any cab) and then a little overdrive and some tremelo for the bridge. try messin with the fly patch i just gave you with just the amp and cab and toss in a little reverb.

Could you please make me patches for Bad, Gone, New Year's Day and Pride?

for bad, no delay patch has the right delay time that edge uses, its around 467ms, so its hard to play along to the song. the closest i could get was the echo+ delay set at 455ms. so for bad, try that delay, and the 2-12 ac30 cab. if you have a compressor throw that in too, otherwise try messing with the classic comp or the top boost for the drive amp.

for gone, try this:

amp: top boost
drive 5.0, level 6.3, treb 10.0, mid 6.0, bass 9.0
cab: 2-12 ac30
air 8.0, level 7.0, pres 7.3

for the bridge swith the tremelo on:
mod: textrem
speed 5.3, depth 6.7
throw in a reverb of your liking and you're set

new year's day is easy since the song is more piano orientated. so try messing with this:

amp: top boost
drive 5.3, level 8.0, treb 10.0, mid 4.0, bass 9.0
cab: 2-12 ac30
air 2.3, level 7.0, pres 7.3
a little delay and/or reverb and your set

as with streets, dont waste your time trying to find the right tone for this song if you dont have a fender strat; that tone is from the guitar, not the amps. try this for pride:
amp: top boost
drive 1.3, level 10.0, treb 10.0, mid 4.0, bass 7.7
cab: 2-12ac30 (no surprise)
air ln, level 7.0, pres 7.3
toss in around 400 or 420ms or delay with one or two repeats and you're golden. a little reverb wont hurt either.

keep in mind, these only took me about 15 to make each patch and they arent exact; mess with them please. the older songs are much easier to clone; you cant go wrong with the top boost/ac30 set up, it's pretty much what edge used during those times. knowing this, its not that hard to make each patch. just listen to the song and change each attribute as you play along. the songs from achtung baby on are more of a challenge, but the way i do it, is to find the tone and amp last and find the effects such as delay, reverb, wah, etc. first.

Wow thanks. I've been messing around with your patches and they sound great. I've made my own patches for loads of other songs now. But i can't find the right delay time for Pride or the right phaser for Numb.

Thanks a lot.
Jonny.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't realise you told me about Pride at the bottom.

for the fly, try these settings for tehe autowah instead of the ones above:

time 9.0, depth 1.0, polarity up

it sounds a lot more like the newer version of the fly.

try messing with the flanger modulation effect for numb. ive tried it before and can get halfway there, but you'll need a korg A3 to sound like edge.

Cool. I have an AX1500G and can't wait to check out some of the patches given above ^^^.

By the way, I recommend everyone read this article about Edge's delay:
http://www.amnesta.net/edge_delay/

It's very informative and gives you a formula to work out how many miliseconds of delay are needed for each song using the BPM of that song.

yeah, i have that delay site bookmarked. the only problem for us ax1500g owners isthat we cant set our dealys to exact delay times, ie. they jump from 400ms to 441ms etc. but it is helpful in establishing double delays and getting an overall idea of a specfic song's delay time.

also, i searched google for "herdim picks" and found these:

http://www.apollosaxes.com/herguitpic.html
http://www.hobgoblin.com/local/cartcapo.htm (scroll down)
http://www.musiccorner.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=13181

i just purchased some from the first website

the first site is US based and the other two are in the UK i believe. hope this helps...

Thanks Explorer... by the way your settings are great. What do you use for Electric Co?

Thanks in advance...

EDIT: Also what does "ln" and "ap" mean in the AIR option of a cabinet?

ive been messing with that fly patch i gave you guys and i found it sounds a little better to use the us high gain distortion than the big fuzz. change the drive to about 2.7 and see how it sounds; its up to you.

the air setting for the cab simulates the interference between the speaker and the mic. decreasing that value all the way to AP makes it more suitable for connection to an amp, and increasing it to LN makes it better for direct line connections. i use a direct line connection a lot, so mess around with this setting if it doesnt sound right on your amp.

ill get back to you about electric co...

Thanks Explorer... also if you've got one for "Wild Horses" it would be great too (hope I'm not asking too much of you!)

By the way, is it the heavy, medium or light Herdim picks that Edge uses? I think I will buy a few from that website but want to make sure I get the right ones. Thanks again :)

edge uses the heavy blue picks. ill get back to you guys with a wild horses and an electric co patch.

U2 Vertigo Tour 2006

haha, alright, the line forms to the left...

mess with this for electric co:

amp, topboost
drive 3.3, level 7.0, treb 10.0, mid 5.3, bass 8.0
cab 2-12ac30
air 8.0, level 7.0, pres 6.3
mod, mod delay
time 289, feed 5.3, spd 0.0, depth 0.0, mix 9.7
amb, room
time 2.7, tone 6.7, mix 6.3

the most important thing about this song is the delay which should be pretty close to edge's. as with all patches i give you, mess with the amps and cabs (particularly the "air" setting) depending on your guitar and amp and whether you're using a direct line connection.

vertigo: i'm able to clone this song perfectly with my setup so hopefully it will with yours too:

amp british
drive 2.7, level 5.7, treb 10.0, mid 5.7, bass 8.3
cab, 2-12ac30
air 8.0, level 7.0, pres 7.3
amb, spring
time 3.3, tone 8.0, mix 6.0

a good idea for this song is to set one of the other amp channels (ach/bch) to the same amp and cab settings except set the amp drive a little lower, say 1.7. swith to this setting for that interlude/solo thing edge does since the verse setting is a little overdriven. also it wouldnt hurt to throw in a little delay for this part either, say something around 425ms.

im gonna tell you right now you cant do mysterious ways with this thing. you need the doppleganger pedal for that. the korg's auto wah is just too light for this song.

wild horses, hold me thrill me and until the end of the world to come....

Thanx Man, Sounds pretty good Verigo on my Les Paul.

Im Try to do the patch for An Cat Dubh-Into The Heart... Very Soon....

Byee....

For Bad (Live Aid) set the amp to Top Boost with about 3.3 gain and use 2x12 AC30 for the cab. Put in some Mod Delay at 441ms, 1 repeat, 0.10 speed, 1.0 depth and 8.7 mix. Add some reverb.

It's possible to get the Live Aid sound because the song was played faster there (102bpm). You only need 1 delay and repeat to play this song.

taborama.com/archive/tab.php?tid=107487&aid=554&a=U2&t=Bad%20(live)&i=6
is a perfect tab for the song.

Does anybody can pass the settings for these :
exit
i will follow
kite

.... ?

Thanks a lot in advance !!!

Using AX1500G with other pedals. I tried putting my Boss Metal Zone between my strat and the ax1500. It works when the pedal is on, but when I click the Boss off nothing goes through to the Ax1500 ( nothing comes out anyway, was monitoring the 1500 with headphones at the time ). ???

its probably a problem with your metal zone bypass switch. try guitar>metal zone>amp and see if the problem is still there. if it is, then its probably the switch.

also, sorry guys, but i wont be able to provide any patches for awhile; im away at school and dont have my equipment. just remember: for the classic edge tone, you cant go wrong with the top boost and the 2x12 ac30.

right then....

hold me thrill me kiss me kill me isn't that hard, just bigfuzz for the drive amp and 4x12 modern for the cab. Use the pitch shifter pedal with 0 delay, 0.0 feedback, 12 pitch, 0 fine and 10.0 mix for the siren sound in the intro.

I will follow and an cat dubh will be even easier. Just Top Boost, 2x12 AC30 and some stereo delay (check here: amnesta.net/edge_delay/ ).

For Kite try the classic comp with 10 drive and the AC30. Some delay again. You might have to use the Echo Plus or the Echo + Reverb settings to get the right time.

Beautiful Day - top boost for the drive amp, about 2.0 gain for the verses and 8.0 for the chorus), AC30 for cab, delay ( amnesta.net/edge_delay/ ).

Love and Peace or Else - Top Boost with low gain (2.0 maybe) with delay for the first verse, higher gain for the rest. For the filter sounds before and during the solo try the traveller pedal.

Exit - Another Top Boost, AC30 and delay.

Until the End of the World - Drive Amp: Top Boost 7.0 drive, level 10.0, treble 10.0, mid 5.0, bass 9.0. Cab: 4x12 Modern: Air LN, level 7.0, presence 7.3. Echo+: Time 420, Feedback 1.0, Tone 10.0, Mix 5.0.

hope this is of help, jonny.

edit: for the EQ on all songs start with Treble 10.0, Middle 5.0 and Bass 9.0 and tweak from there.

from looking at explorer's settings I think you should set the level to 7.0 and the presence to 7.3 for the cabinets.

here are some more of my settings:

Sunday Bloody Sunday: Top Boost, 3.7 drive and 10.0 level, AC30 cabinet, Stereo Delay 403ms, 1 feedback, 10.0 tone, 5.0 mix.

Bullet the Blue Sky: Big Fuzz, 10.0 drive and 10.0 level, AC30 cabinet, wah and 521ms stereo delay, 1 feedback, 10.0 tone and 5.3 mix for solo.

Streets: Classic Comp 2.3 drive and 10.0 level, AC30 cabinet, room reverb and 361ms of mod delay, 5 feedbacks, 1.4 speed, 0.3 depth, 8.3 mix.

Mod Delay with 1.4 speed and 0.3 depth sounds good for some of the classic edge delay songs.

thanks, jonny.
