Tentative title for the new song on U2:18....

(10-09-2006) Bono and Edge HBO Taping in New York City - Interference.com*
Bono and Edge HBO Taping in New York City

Ed. Note -- Interference.com's own Arun V was able to attend the taping for the new Dave Stewart show on HBO last week. Below is his report. Thanks Arun!

Bono and Edge arrived in New York City to tape a pilot for HBO that will air Nov. 24. The new show is hosted by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics and focuses on songwriting. The taping was about two hours long with tape changes.

The show was taped in a very intimate setting and only 50 people allowed in. Audience participation was encouraged (they allowed us to yell out songs we'd like to hear them talk about during one point). Some highlights included Bono and Edge talking about the inner workings of the band, Dave Stewart giving Bono and Edge a rock 'n' roll ink blot test in which he held up album covers and had them talk about their feelings toward the artist and the album itself, and some great stories about Frank Sinatra and the genesis of the songs "Stay" and "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad." The guys also talked about the new song from the "U218" singles album that's called (perhaps tentatively) "Window in the Sky" and was recorded at Abbey Road studios.

As a side note I just want to point how the guys in the band talk about each other with the utmost respect, it's really a model for professionalism and friendship.

I wanted to write this up because it was so incredible and I wanted to share, however I have intentionally held back details, because I think this show is special and I implore everyone to tune into HBO on Nov. 24 to watch it. I don't want to spoil the experience of watching and letting people see it.

This concept for the series is great and future guests mentioned were Eric Clapton, Stevie Nicks and some others I can't recall right now.

I wanted to thank U2 and HBO for letting us have this experience, it was nothing short of incredible. Watch the show and you'll know what I mean.

Now, which if the beach clips could lyrically fit with that title--if any? :hmm:

Well, of all the beach clips I think the very first beach clip (song 400) fits the title best.

Window in the sky :hmm:

I have a feeling this song is not a beach clip but a different song.

WOW , very unexpected song title.

Very pink floyd for some reason  ( why am i thinking that , someone tell me )

i was getting more of a journey vibe

wheel in the sky

Interview sounds awesome, Window in the Sky sounds like a good title, although so did Some Days Are Better Than Others.

The chorus might go "Window in the sky, click the x to make it go away.. awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy."

Thanks for that...i so needed a laugh! I don't have HBO, so hopefully someone records it or puts it on YouTube. Sounds really cool.

Imo, I don't think their new songs will sound TOO similar to what we heard with the beach clips. We all know that U2 are perfectionists, and constantly rearange early forms of their songs. Hopefully we won't be stuck with semi-slow ballads. Hit us w/ some heartfelt, fast-paced rock!

should they release Mercy than I would prefer it to take up place on a compilation instead of on a proper album
so I like that idea

Well it definitely should have been on Bomb, but now that it's been leaked for so long I'm doubting the possibility of ever getting it as an official release.

A title like that though makes me really doubt hit single potential now...

The current Billboard Top 10:

1. "SexyBack" - Justin Timberlake
2. "Money Maker" - Ludacris ft. Pharrell
3. "Lips of an Angel" - Hinder
4. "How to Save a Life" - The Fray
5. "Chasing Cars" - Snow Patrol
6. "London Bridge" - Fergie
7. "Smack That" - Akon ft. Eminem
8. "Chain Hang Low" - Jibbs
9. "Far Away" - Nickelback
10. "Pullin' Me Back" - Chingy ft. Tyrese

I think "Window in the Sky" will be okay.

Hahaha, I was thinking about that Evanesence junk "Wake Me When I'm Sober" being a fault towards my reasoning while I was posting it so yeah that's true.

Now this is what i'm talking about! U2 need to write/record songs in THIS vein! Their next album could be all "Iri$h Boyz R Hott" or some crap like that.

Here's a good Bono quote about Radio: "It's sweet. I feel like my teeth are rotting out of my head." or something to that extent...

Did you think hit single when you saw the title 'Where the Streets Have No Name' or 'The Fly'?

Come on, you can't tell shit from a title.

That's true: when people hear a song that grabs their attention, they don't stop and say, "Wait a minute, I'm not diggin' the title. Throw that one in the garbage!" However, a good title, a unique title, provides an easy way for someone to catalogue that song in their minds. 'Lemon' is a great example, as is 'Where the Streets Have No Name', as is 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. They are unique titles in the sense that they create a vivid association to each song. I think 'Window in the Sky' works pretty well. You create a mental picture. It's not a vague 'All My Life' sort of title that has no particular image to tie it down. However, some of U2's biggest hits don't have particularily memorable titles. Thank God it is mostly about the music and not the title!
