Why is Bono saying sorry??

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Which is why I've been floating the idea...next album NO PARADE! Don't give them anything else to focus on except the album. Just quietly release something. Novel idea.

I'd take it a step further. All of them in robes while having a group hug.

This whole thing about some Apple/I-Tunes users being upset with U2 about releasing SOI for free on their accounts has been laughable and irritating at the same time. Don't they(those who don't want the album)realize all they have to do is to simply delete the album. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and there beliefs but cmon people. What a crime it was for U2 to release their new album for free after we the die hard fans buy all their albums and concert tickets. Maybe U2 was just trying to give back to their fans in that way and I thought it was a genius idea.:applaud:

Media really IS an irony free zone these days. Bono spoke at the Web Summit in Dublin on Thursday extensively about the Apple deal and discussed aspects of the relationship between music and technology. He also said that he is very proud of the band's album release to iTunes and that he wasn't really apologizing for it (most of us know he wasn't really saying sorry).

Here's the panel with Bono, some quite interesting issues being discussed:

Web Summit 2014 Day Three - Eric Wahlforss Dana Brunetti David Carr Bill McGlashan - YouTube

Some media have already picked it up and said Bono is confused and that he's backpedaling and has forgotten that he said sorry. What's so hard to understand, really?

It is a joke really isnt it. I did a search on google news and loads of news articles came up about Bono back pedaling :)

I really wouldn't be so naive to think that U2 were trying to "give back" to the "loyal fans". The free download stunt was purely to generate media buzz for them after a long hiatus and to try and ensnare a new generation of fans (they've said as much themselves). They (U2) fully expected us (the loyal fans) to buy SOI on vinyl/CD, and are probably feeling a little miffed that comparatively few bothered to do so.

I'm hearing that the band will be featured in a new Viagra ad where all the band members will be in bathtubs out by a lake. Then McGuinness is gonna sprint across the screen in the nude and jump into the lake.
Paully McG creates a giant ripple in the water. [screen zooms out] [cues Every Breaking Wave]
