Yes, they wanted to recreate the look of the U2-3 EP in 1979 after receiving a white label version from CBS

I'm guessing the actually vinyl which will be pressed on white vinyl will have different artwork.

I would say that the only two U2 albums with truly bad album artwork are October and Bomb.

Tim Cook said the September 9th free download would be a white label release, and also the handwritten 9/9/14 strongly suggests, to me, that the longer, October release will have full artwork on the cover. This has been mentioned in a few other threads, and it makes sense. We'll see soon, I guess!
