People, people don't worry. We'll all be nuked in WWIII before the next U2 album is released.

We're collectively fucked and you ask about U2's popularity in the US? Bono isn't gonna see the White House from the inside for a while. Apart from that? Fewer non US fans coming to US shows means a few more tickets for US fans. That's about it. But apart from that, I just wanna cry.

Considering there's a dedicated thread/pub fight going strong elsewhere it wasn't exactly a stupid question to ask here.

And I'm suprised to see you try and put things into perspective, saying we're all fucked, then say the only U2 related consequence is more tickets for US concerts...

U2 just came out of hiding to fulfil contractual obligations but also use the stage to take shots at a man who just got elected president(!!) and, given his temperament, will feel he has every right to tell Bono to fuck off if he's got the balls to ask him to support his aid work. (which, knowing Bono he probably will!)

So in the grander scheme of things, it's not exactly ideal, and Bono probably thought Clinton has a bit more of a chance than that, but yeah this stretches a bit further than butthurt republicans freeing up seats on the 2019 leg of the ie tour.

Now that meerkat's supposedly dead they can stop bringing all those crazy rail limpets on stage and start phoning Trump every night.

W/ Trump's election, Bono now hates all of America.

The SoE tour will no longer feature a U.S. leg. They will play in cities that border the U.S. like Montreal and Tijuana.

Our best hope is that the band play in only Blue states....start saving your money Minnesota and Maine !

Agree with everything you say Gaz ?✋

Did the trump bashing make big news in America? It just about made some news outlets here in the uk but im persuming it would be bigger news in the states

Obviously i know the implications of that fool getting in, seeing as its a u2 forum i thought id keep the topic to u2.

The whole world knows the implications apart from you Americans really, remember he has won the voting so you lot have voted him in. Thanks!
I'm not American. I just woke up to the news and then saw this post. Felt out of place but carry on.

Not sure what your point is and where we disagree

Along with the rest of the thinking world.

The population of which has now certifiably been reduced by about 60 million

The race was so close, Trump would've lost had the Dems put up somebody better. Clinton actually did win the popular vote by a sliver. All we can do is just hope not too much gets fucked up in the next 4 years, and hope that in 2020 the Democrats get their head out of their ass and get somebody better.

Anyway, guitar picks and Amps, eh? The telltale signs that a musician is playing music. The plot thickens...

In lighter news, there's some buzz on Bonnaroo forums that U2 will play the festival. Figured it was just a guess/baseless rumour but a lot of posts seem to take it as a given now.

Maybe they'll try appealing to the mainstream/younger crowd like at Glastonbury, only this time with a new album with trendy remixes.

Is Bonaroo considered mainstream?

Yea. I feel like the Bonaroo bubble is close to bursting, but it is probably the biggest fest in the US right now... at least in terms of brand awareness. Especially when the (headliner) line-up is stacked. All other bigger festivals in the US are benefitting from Bonaroo reaching critical mass and becoming too mainstream, it seems. They'll be there to reap the benefits.

That's just my view on it, based on being on the fringe (nothing exciting, I swear) of the industry for a number of years.

My point was it was strange how you tried to give ren a bite of a reality sandwich...then miss the bigger picture a bit yourself. But no worries, more seats at gigs.

I still don't get why many countries employ the first past the post system. It can be grossly manipulated and is ultimately unfair.

Perhaps if U2 employed the first past the post system we'd have a new album released by now...

It makes for easier governance? What we see in other countries, including the Netherlands, is when every party has an equal chance at a seat is complete disintegration as there now too many parties to form workable majorities. Another plus of the congressional and British district system is that you actually have a representative that you as a voter can connect with. You can write them, visit them, influence them. In the other system the only person people know and vote for is the party leader, and all the other candidates are faceless nobodies who get sucked into parliament depending on how well the party leader does. They are also less likely to go against party discipline and show independent behavior.

Here in the Netherlands nobody knows who most members or parliament are, all the major decisions are made during the formation of a new government after an election and once they made an agreement for the duration of that new government parliament is basically made impotent. We don't even have a say in who will form the government. The last election saw a race between the socialists and liberals to see who would become the biggest (and thus be given the right to form the new government). People started to vote strategically because they did not want the other side to form the new government. And come the election the first thing the opposing socialists and liberals was sit together and form the new government, much to the chagrin of their voters.

So yeah, for me first past the post doesn't sound so bad. Less backroom deals, more independent behavior of members of parliament, less chance of getting a coalition government and bad compromises you don't want. Sure, the system can be manipulated, but so can any system.

How Trump won? Look up the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Never heard of this before, just read up on it.

It seems spot on.

For the earth's sake, i hope it doesn't pertain to Trump and he really is of "high ability".

Any way, how many guitar pics does Adam have on the amp today?
