Roughly 3 months later, where does NLOTH fall in your album rankings

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
1. AB
2. JT
3. POP
4. Zooropa
5. No Line
6. Boy
7. R & H
8. The Bomb
9. ATYCLB
10. UF
11. War
12. October

I don't know if there's any way No Line could have passed Pop for me, but with a substitution of a finished Winter (or other unused song) for Crazy Tonight or Stand Up Comedy probably would have pushed this past Zooropa.

Also, I knew I'd have UF in a lower spot than anyone else...

I don't particularly like the album. I think I can 'rank' the U2 albums into about a 4-tier list, and NLOTH is definitely 4th tier (along with October). That's not to say it's crap -- it's still good, but it just doesn't excite me.

To me, it has the competent, elder-craftsmen, 4-years-of-expensive-studio-bills flavor of the two preceding albums, but ATYCLB is more of a piece -- more emotional, more celebratory, more soulful -- and HTDAAB, while not very diverse, is much harder-hitting, with much better tunes and more rock'n'roll. NLOTH, by comparison, seems very diverse, but is a collection of stuff we've heard before, lyrically (especially) and musically, except it was more exciting the first time. The two tracks that seem quite new-ish are 'Moment of Surrender', which is all right but kind of boring, and 'Fez', which is interesting but would have been a late-80s B-side. The lyrics are the low-point of the album for me (and I thought the lyrics on ATYCLB were mostly excellent, so my standards can't be that high).

I tend to go through long peaks and troughs of U2-listening. I listened to them all the time in about 1991 to 1994; from 1995 to 2000, I didn't listen to them at all. Then from 2001 to 2006, I listened to them all the time. Now, again, I feel I'm going out of a U2-phase and might not be back for a while. To NLOTH, I say: "It's not you, it's me..."

Im gonna say NLOTH and the UF and maybe ATYCLB are tied at number 3 for me - if it wasn't for stand up comedy the album would be a complete success - Stand up makes me so mad though because u know they had better songs to go on the album and even better versions - its unforgivable for me

^^^I completely agree about SUC. Tracks 1-5 are so beautiful, followed by the rocker (Boots), then the beauty of Fez/Being Born & WAS follows, then we close out with Breathe (great track) & the most haunting closer for a U2 album, Cedars. Great album!

...but ask me again after the tour...

Whoo! Tough one...

1. Pop (w/live versions) Tied with Achtung Baby
3. Joshua Tree tied with All That You Can't Leave Behind
4. A-Bomb tied with NO LINE
Explanation:
Vertigo vs. No Line (draw)
Miracle vs. Mag (NLOTH)
Sometimes vs. Moment (Bomb barely)
Love & Peace vs. Unknown Caller (NLOTH)
City vs. Crazy (Bomb barely)
All because vs. Boots (Nloth barely)
AMAAW vs. SUC (draw)
Crumbs vs. Fez-BB (NLOTH)
OSC vs. White as Snow (NLOTH)
Original vs. Breathe (draw)
Yahweh vs. Cedars (draw)

Hmm... Maybe I should do this with more albums. Maybe the better way would be to put the songs in order from best to worst and then go head to head. Somebody should definitely make a thread that way.

I think I need more time to break the tie AB/NLOTH, it's so difficult, AB has been my favourite for so long and, of course, NLOTH is the new one, I can't relate to these songs as I do to the ones in AB, but I feel I will.

I don't get this. How are the songs by their tracklist order comparable? Maybe put them in order of best to worst, and compare your favourites.

For me, it's

1. Zooropa
2. The Joshua Tree
3. Pop
4. The Unforgettable Fire
5. No Line on the Horizon
6. Achtung Baby!
7. Boy
8. All That You Can't Leave Behind
9. Rattle and Hum
10. How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
11. War

Couldn't place October, don't own it.

I have said from day one that No Line was duking it out with the UF for 3rd on the list. I still feel the same way about this 3 months later. I think it needs a good 2 years before it can properly be assessed ("tasted" like any decent wine with age).

Something like this:

1) Achtung Baby
2-tie) Pop
2-tie) No Line On The Horizon
4) Zooropa
5-tie) The Unforgettable Fire
5-tie) Original Soundtracks 1
7) The Joshua Tree (yes, I prefer Passengers to TJT)
...from there it gets murky and changes frequently, but it's something like this:
8) All That You Can't Leave Behind
9) October
10) Boy
11) How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
12) War
13) Rattle and Hum

Yeah. I'm a bit odd.

The Bonus CD of October is great because all of those songs are 5 times better live. Get your hands on it.

I honestly cant rank U2 albums in terms of my favorite to least favorite because every album is a favorite depending on what I want to listen to. There are amazing and not so good songs on every CD. I probably listen to Boy, UF, Pop, Zooropa, and Bomb the least. If that helps?

Also I would rather watch Under A Blood Red Sky and/or Rattle and Hum than listen to any album if I had to choose.

it's ok. that's very close to mine.

MaMa Mia this is harder than I thought:reject:

Here is my problem I have no desire to listen to any CD other than NLOTH

Ok here goes LOL

The Joshua Tree
AB
NLOTH ( I almost feel bad:sad: putting it before the next two but)
ATYCLB
HTDAAB
R&H
Zooropa
Pop
Boy
War
October

This will be interesting to see in about a year or so:blahblah:

1. The Unforgettable Fire
2. The Joshua Tree
3. Passengers
4. Boy
=5. October

7. Pop
8. War
9. Zooropa
10. Achtung Baby
11. Rattle And Hum
12. HTDAAB
13. ATYCLB

Can't decide if I favour October or NLOTH. NLOTH is the more consistent album, but it has no songs quite as brilliant as October's best moments, e.g. Gloria.
