It's absurdly early, but, as I think that I'm able to rank the album among other albums, perhaps it's not *too* early to ask everyone else to do that.

1) Achtung Baby
2) Zooropa
3) The Unforgettable Fire
4) The Joshua Tree
5) No Line On the Horizon
6) Pop
7) Songs of Innocence (tie)
7) All That You Can't Leave Behind (tie)
7) War (tie)
10) Boy
11) How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
12) Rattle and Hum
13) October

I honestly can't figure out a way to un-tie the 7s, including SoI, at the moment.

Indeed. Nevertheless, it's always fun to do this...

1. Achtung Baby
2. The Joshua Tree
3. Pop
4. Zooropa
5. Rattle and Hum

6. The Unforgettable Fire
7. Boy
8. War
9. No Line On The Horizon
10. October

11. All That You Can't Leave Behind
12. Songs Of Innocence
13. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

This can very well change because I expect and hope that SOI will grow on me.

as much as I'm delighted with Songs Of Innocence I just can't rate it higher than nine albuns that are part of my life.

Ties are cheating. It's like counting all the Star Wars movies as one in a Top 10 movie list. :)

Make a choice Dig. Commit. Commitment is power.

I'll consider committing if you make a ranking!

To be honest, it's almost impossible to rank their back catalog as it is. Sort of just changes with my mood. But, I'll give this a try.

This, just enjoy the music without making a competition out of it. The Joshua Tree is a much better album than Bomb, but what would be their 6th or 7th best album? I don't know and I don't know how to rank those. I don't feel the need to try it too. I think it's funny when people say this song is a 6.5 and this one is a 7.

All I can say is that Songs Of Innocence surprised me in a good way.

1 Achtung Baby
2 Joshua Tree
3 Boy
4 Pop
5 The Unforgettable Fire
6 War
7 October
8 Zooropa
9 Rattle and Hum
10 Songs of Innocence

12 No Line on the Horizon
13 All that you can't leave behind

SOI might go up later. Usually, seing the whole stuff live is to me the most important. Some songs just delevop so well live that they make the album a lot better..... Listened to NLOTH this morning just to compare it with SOI and I think the album did not age well. MOS, FEZ and NLOTH remain my favourite songs, but the rest is meehhhh..... first time I put it below HTDAAB :reject:

Mate, if you took ranking sh*t away from music and film forums, there would be no music and film forums. That's what geeks do with music...they rank it. You just ranked JT over Bomb. People have been ranking albums since the second album was released. I like periodically learning which records people do and don't like, it's swell. :)

I'd give your comment a 2.5. It should be a 0, but you did say something nice about SOI, so that counts for something.

:eyebrow:

Don't get me wrong. I don't say it's ridiculous to rank. What I meant to say is: there are people who rank their 50 favourite U2 songs. I mean it's obvious that you think some songs/albums are better than others, but how do you decide if song A is YOUR 43rd and song B YOUR 44th favourite? What are the criteria or is it just some random positioning/guessing? Yes, that's different to every person, but it takes something away from the art itself. That's just my opinion.

I'd give your comment a 2.5. It should be a 0, but you did say something nice about SOI, so that counts for something.

Oh no, I hope I can sleep tonight after such a disastrous grade!

Obviously this is all subjective because some of the albums are more personal to me than other ones. Also, I have more good feelings for their later stuff than the earlier albums:

Achtung Baby
All That You Can't Leave Behind
Pop
Songs of Innocence
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
Zooropa
The Unforgettable Fire
The Joshua Tree
War
No Line On The Horizon
Rattle & Hum
Boy
October

Right now I can't place SoI in my list--too soon. But if forced I'd put it just below the midpoint, maybe 7 or 8. But it's really too soon to know for sure.

1. Joshua Tree
2. War
3. Boy
4. Achtung Baby
5. Unforgettable Fire
6. Rattle & Hum
7. All That You Can't Leave Behind
8. October
9. Pop
10. How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
11. Zooropa
12. No Line on the Horizon

1 Achtung Baby
2 The Joshua Tree
3 Songs of Innocence
4 Pop
5 Boy
6 Zooropa
7 All That You Can't Leave Behind
8 Rattle & Hum
9 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
10 War
11 The Unforgettable Fire
12 No Line On The Horizon
13 October

Still feel like it's way too early for this. And if I had to guess, I would imagine SOI moving up in my chart. But who knows?

1. Achtung Baby
2. The Joshua Tree
3. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
4. All That You Can't Leave Behind
5. Zooropa
6. The Unforgettable Fire
7. Songs of Innocence
8. Rattle & Hum
9. Pop
10. War
11. Boy
12. No Line On The Horizon
13. October

Actually, looking back at my list, numbers 3 through 9 can vary greatly depending on my mood. The rest are pretty static.

1) All That You Can't Leave Behind
2) Achtung Baby
3) Pop
4) Songs of Innocence
5) The Joshua Tree
6) How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
7) Rattle and Hum
8) Boy
9) No Line On The Horizon
10) Zooropa
11) War
12) The Unforgettable Fire
13) October

Numbers 3-6 could really be in any order, though.

1. Joshua Tree
2. Achtung Baby
3. Songs of Innocence
4. War
5. NLOTH
6. Pop
7. Unforgettable Fire
8. ATYCLB
9. Boy
10. Zooropa
11. Rattle & Hum
12. Bomb
13. October

Things have changed with time. I rated them based out of 10 per song and then averaged them. In Rattle and Hum I kept only new material. Zooropa has improved compared to prior lists but it also benefits by having only 10 songs.

Achtung Baby 9.5/10
The Joshua Tree 8.9/10
Songs of Innocence 8.5/10
All that you can’t leave behind 8.4/10
Rattle and Hum 8.3/10
Zooropa 7.8/10
Pop 7.5/10
War 7.3/10
No line on the horizon 7.1/10
The Unforgettable Fire 7.1/10
Boy 7/10
How to dismantle an atomic bomb 6.9/10
October 6.1/10

Yet every album has great songs on it even if they get dragged down in the average score. The 7.0 to 8.0 albums are really close together. Songs of Innocence may go up or down depending on time again. NLOTH really dropped compared to how I rated it 5 years ago.

1. Achtung baby
2. War
3. The Unforgettable Fire
4. The Joshua Tree
5. Boy
6. Pop
7. Zooropa
8. October
9. Rattle & Hum
10. Songs of Innocence
11. How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
12. All That You Can't Leave Behind
13. No Line on the Horizon
