No Line On The Horizon (Alternate Tracklist)

i know...i know....this album is so good, it almost seems sac religious to put it in an alternate tracklist. but i have always found it fun to make alternate tracklists.....kind of change history.

this is something i tried last night, and it worked very well. i based it on a rumored tracklist i saw in early January. obviously, White As Snow wasn't listed, but Every Breaking Wave was, so i just swapped those songs. i also swapped Fez - Being Born for Tripoli, since U2.com confirmed that they are the same song. the only thing that frustrated me is that i just couldn't find a home for Stand Up Comedy in this tracklist. personally, that's fine because it's my least favorite song on the album. but if you're a huge fan of Stand Up Comedy, then this may not be for you.

here's what i came up with:

1. Fez - Being Born
2. Magnificent
3. Moment Of Surrender
4. Unknown Caller
5. No Line On The Horizon
6. Get On Your Boots
7. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
8. Winter
9. White As Snow
10. Breathe
11. Cedars Of Lebanon

a couple of notes:

- Fez - Being Born is such a great opener. it really reminds me of Zooropa in this spot.

- i couldn't split up the Magnificent-MOS-UC trio. it's just too strong.

- NLOTH and GOYB flow especially well, and IGCIIDGCT works very well in the 7th slot

- tracks 8-11 are gold

now please don't diss it until you try it.

This is why I love the ITUNES Playlist function, I like your mix and here's mine with Winter, I think it should have been on the album:

1. No Line On the Horizon (wish this was the 1st single)
2. Magnificent
3. Moment Of Surrender
4. Unknown Caller
5. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
6. Get On Your Boots
7. Stand Up Comedy
8. Winter
9. Fez - Being Born
10. White As Snow
11. Breathe
12. Cedars Of Lebanon
13. NLOTH 2

Minor changes and just over 1 hour!

Breathe on 5th spot. It gets a strong song at no.5, it works with the up-tempo middle section and it leaves the closing with FEZ/White as snow/Cedars of Lebanon.

My favourite album endings are: Exit/MoTD, Acrobat/Blindness, Please/WUDM, Electric Co/Shadows.

For this album I'd prefer Fez-Being Born/Cedars which has a similar feel. So I've shifted Fez-BB to 2nd last track, added Winter at 8 and moved Breathe to 9.

Fez isn't catchy or inviting enough to open the album. Even Zooropa's title track has a hook once it kicks in.

I don't make alternate tracklists, I've always heard the albums in the order they were intended to.
But a few days ago, I thought about this for fun:

1. Fez-Being Born
2. Stand Up Comedy
3. Moment of Surreneder
4. Unknown Caller
5. Breathe
6. Cedars of Lebanon
7. Magnificent
8. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
9. White as Snow
10. No Line on the Horizon
11. Get on Your Boots

I'm happy with the current official tracklisting, and wouldn't include Winter, neither Mercy. Mercy is cool, but would be a re-hash of Bomb.

here's a new one i'm listening to. now that we have the studio version GOYB with the extended live intro, i think it works very well as the opener:

1. Get On Your Boots (Extended Intro)
2. Stand Up Comedy
3. Magnificent
4. Moment Of Surrender
5. Unknown Caller
6. I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight
7. No Line On The Horizon
8. Fez – Being Born
9. Winter
10. White As Snow
11. Breathe
12. Cedars Of Lebanon
