This is like the only sentence I agree with from the Pitchfork review...

The title track's hard-nosed verse is torpedoed by its deflating fart of a hook.

This is absolutely 100% true. The song ABSOLUTELY ROCKS, but they absolutely BUTCHERED the chorus in the album version. It ruins the song for me. I love the rough, dark guitar storm going on during the verses and I love how Bono's voice is so flexible and great in the verses and then buuzzzzzzzzzzzzzz killlllllllll. No. No line on the horizon. No. No line. It's a horrible chorus hook which actually sounded decent in NLOTH2.

it's funny but i haven't listened to NLOTH2 since i first heard the album version! and i loved NLOTH2!

Both are good. I love the guitar in both versions, different yet both amazing. Chorus from 2 is better. Otherworldly sounds from 1 is better. Good stuff!

Exactly, why the hell does the title track have such a ponderous chorus? Bono even sounds out of breath/ bored singing it on the album version. NLOTH2's is much better.

It's ridiculous to have a rock song where the verses have more energy than the chorus.

I still think a mish-mash of both would be awesome, but NLOTH1 is much more fitting for the actual album we have.

You know what, the live version is kind of like both.

THEREFORE! The live version is better than NLOTH or NLOTH2.

Nah, the live version is crap, most of the cool sounds are missing, they haven't sorted it out properly.

It's worse than both versions atm.

We need NLOTH 3 which should be based on 2, but have the 'time is irrelevant...' line from 1, replacing the scat singing in 2.

And it should have more variation in the verses like 1 has, but they should keep 2's chorus and the 'no... line!' chant at the end, but add to that 1's quirky keyboard outro.

Its guitar at the end not keyboard. Its an effect called a POG. He also uses it on the verses in Magnificent.

I don't think that in studio performance sounded like a hybrid at all.

And agreed with the above, without the "No! Line!" it's not going to be the same. I'd be surprised if they don't put it back in because it will be so awesome live with everyone screaming it.

Of course, if they don't we could organize our own pit chanting which will hopefully change their minds. :hmm:

Yup, the No Line!, makes for a great singalong, just like the 'Let me in the sound part' of Boots. They'd be stupid if they left that out.

Oh, so it's guitar (like he plays in the live version), sounds like keyboard/synth which is pretty cool

Does that mean he can play the intro to Magnificent on his guitar then?

Great idea!

And to me the chorus could be changed back too, I prefer the no line on the horizon thing to no, no line on the horizon... since Bono is lazy with lyrics live anyway it'd be easier to sing for him too.

Just came back from a late night gambling session and ate at a local tavern place that's open 24 hours. They played NLOTH2 out of nowhere, I think it was a radio station, but I couldn't tell. Kinda funny that the first time I hear any of U2's new music outside of my house, it's not even one of the album tracks. Just found it interesting I guess lol. Maybe I had too many cocktails but I swear it sounded a few BPM's faster, not a lot, but I could tell the words were going quicker than I remember them ever being before.

Oh they also played a techno-y version of NYD at the casino I went to, which doesn't really have to do with anything

I really can't decide.
At first I loved the album version way more when I had only heard the clip.
Then I heard NLOTH2 so much and dig it's funky Lady with the spinning head vibe mentioned already.
Then I heard the album version again and love it too, BUT i don't like it when they all sing 'No Line on the Horizon' as there are so many harmonies I can't hear the actual tune anymore.
So for that reason I say NLOTH2 :D by a whisker
