I'm not complaining, and you and I have already discussed at length our differences over what we think is reasonable. I'm actually rather happy with the No Line On The Horizon info. It's exactly what I wanted. To be honest, for the first time since about June 2006, I've felt a bit excited about anything post-Lovetown and what U2 are recording these days.

I can do without the resurrection of the meaningless Venus gibberish, though.

No Line on the horizon might be closer to what most people want. Though "distortion" doesn't necessarily say much, Edge did it before, he's using it now and he'll probably use it on future albums.

I'm excited about all U2 albums (having seen the grand total of 2 albums's talk on the internet), but I wouldn't rely on any of the band members. There's the perpetuum mobile of Edge's "we're getting lost in the music" (and some of the stuff he said re: the last two albums...oh boy), Bono's hype and the usual rhythm section silence. You could ask them individually on the new album and you might well get 4 different descriptions. The only constant where media reports, band and producers agree is "something different". And it's impossible not to repeat itself at some point after being bombarded with "what's the new album like?" question for ages.
The media reviews aren't much better - if I think what Bomb was compared to...in the end, nothing anyone says will matter, it will be down to you to decide how good/bad the album is.

Oh, the song sounds pretty cool to me, but what I meant above is the way the information was presented is what I've been saying I want. I don't want cliches, hyperbole, and catchphrases; that doesn't excite me. But the way we're told about No Line On The Horizon - that's something I can sink my teeth into and think about. It's tangible information rather than meaningless gibberish.

And it's impossible not to repeat itself at some point after being bombarded with "what's the new album like?" question for ages.

Of course, but to re-use the same descriptive cliches for one album after the other? It's one thing to say you're lost in the music - Edge probably has been since 1976! It's quite another to revive the Venus description. Geez, Bono, at least come up with a new cliche to distinguish the current work from what's gone before.

But, like I said - I'm happy and I'm actually starting to get excited about this. We've now got a bit of meat rather than tofu. Rock on.

 They've been saying "this is our best work" for the past 3 albums.
And I think "we're lost in the music" isn't really better than "this is music from Venus". Also consider anything that is said may apply to the music at the moment, but may not apply to the finished album.

When the music leaks though...then we'll really be able to have discussions on the album.

Well, to me, "we're lost in the music" is a general comment about how you might apply yourself to the art. Yes, it could mean anything and nothing with regards to sound, but it says something about how committed they are to the music and how they're feeling it. "Music from Venus", in theory if not in practice, should describe some sound in particular, and repeating it is not a good sign. It just reeks of laziness from Bono.

I wish that journalist had pinched the CD Bono had played and then leaked it on here.

Please tell your cousin that I wanted him to pinch Bono's CD, not his 75% off viagra coupon.

Yeah, ignore his "I'm a Nigerian tribal prince who needs you to hold onto my $10million for a week" email, too.

well, a lot of people here just expect perfection from Bono in every sense of the word...

people are always going to have a problem with what Bono is saying and the kind of hyping up he does...as seen here, some people just can't take his hype, and they are compelled to come on to EYKIW and criticize and dissect everything he says...oh well

but really, I don't believe people who say "I'd rather here nothing from Bono than hear him talk about how on fire Edge is or how they're music is sounding like it's from another planet right now." Oh really? You'd rather Bono not make one sound about the album from the end of the Vertigo tour until the release date than here him talk about it in one way or another? That's BS! Stop your whining :)

I enjoy reading his quotes, shows he still has the passion for it.

How realistic.

I would like it if they had complete media/new album silence for once in these 4 year runs in between albums. No U2 release machine, no promo tours, no interviews Maybe then the complaints would be warranted.

With a little bit of luck, one year from now the "honeymoon" stage of the new album will be over and people will begin to rant about its shortcomings. Oh man, I can't wait!

(take all spaces out)

Hmm...seems like my project was missing a few files. I just thought I'd wait to reupload them until there's interest in the files again. They should all be in it once again by now.

alright, interference is really getting busy these days...there are new threads constantly being made and everything is just getting really rambled up in my head. I'm just trying to gather bits of info here and there and put it all together but it isn't working! I'm confused...please, I need to hear this song...:sigh:

I have absolutely no idea what this "No Line Over the Horizon" song is...I don't know where it comes from either...can someone please just post some link where I can download it? Everyone is talking from the informed perspective...I have no idea what is going on lol....

try reading a little more, the only way you could hear this song is if u2 wouldve driven you around while bono had it playing in the cd player talking about how hard it is to convey joy and how easy it is to write about despair.

hmm...are you trying to be a smartass? :eyebrow:

well, anyway, thanks for that...someone mentioned they heard a little bit of the song though I think in a beach clip... I got the impression that there was a rough version of it somewhere...guess not :(

Hopefully this will clear things up:

In July 2006, U2 were playing some demos really loud in Eze, France and somebody outside recorded bits of them. These are the beach clips.

A few days ago, a press report mentioned that Bono played some demos for a journalist, including one called No Line On The Horizon.

Someone here speculated that in the beach clip known as 402 or I Believe, they think they might be able to hear a lyric like "no line on the horizon" and that its music might fit the journalist's description.

I believe sounds like it could be an AMAZING song!!! Or maybe I just like it alot because it sound alot like HMTMKMKM!!! The guitars sounded amazing but can't really make out the lyrics too much

gotcha, thank you Ax

A song like Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me with a solo like Lovetown Desire or ZooTV Bullet would be such an amazing lead off single, especially if it was called "No Line On The Horizon," and if the chorus didn't just repeat that line over and over, and if all the lyrics are as good standalone as that line. That would become one of my favourites.

If, if, if....

That's about it, good work Axver!
I'd just like to point out again that the lyrics-theory is just pure speculation on my part, it could be correct and it could very well be wrong as well, there's no way we can tell what is what at the moment.

From the description it could be Mercy as well, but since there's another title in the interview I'm guessing it's a new song. How could I hear "a line on the horizon " now and not 1½ years ago? Well, it certainly helps to know what to look for doesn't it? But again, it's hard to determine the exact words that he is singing because of the crashing waves and other noise in the background not to mention that it was most likely an even rougher demo back then.

Yeah, and the first thing I thought is "well, are you hearing what you want to hear?", but I just played it myself and I concur with your interpretation. Bono definitely sings "a line". "On the horizon" seems plausible if you know what it is, but I think it's too indistinct to say for certain. I'm getting "a line - on - suh - hur - iz". Not 100% the music adequately fits the description, but songs evolve and it doesn't seem that far removed from the description either.
