Definitive collection obvious tracklisting...

I think it's fairly obvious that they'll take one track from each album for this collection, and two from the three biggest sellers (Tree, Baby and Bomb).

Therefore, i'd be surprised if there's much different from the following:

I Will Follow (Boy)
Gloria (October)
Sunday Bloody Sunday (War)
Pride (U Fire)
With or Without You (J Tree)
Still Haven't Found
Desire
Angel of Harlem (R&H)
One (Baby)
Mysterious Ways
Stay (Zooropa)
Discotheque (Pop)
Beautiful Day
Elevation
Vertigo
Sometimes

What do people think?

I think that your tracklisting will be quite close, save Discotheque, Angel of Harlem, and Sometimes. I'm not sure about them including anything from October or Pop, nor would I expect them to include two from their last studio album. I think that you definitely have to look at Bono's Rolling Stone article from a while ago when he picked his favourite tracks too to see what might make it (Stay and Miss Sarajevo definitely).

Their 'definitive' Best Of?

I Will Follow
Pride
Bad
New Year's Day
Sunday Bloody Sunday
With Or Without You
Where the Streets Have No Name
Desire
One
Mysterious Ways (or possibly Until the End of the World if they're brave enough)
Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
Miss Sarajevo
Beautiful Day
Vertigo

Plus two more that I can't quite put my finger on.

The Green Day thing
New Song (hopefully 400)

Where The Streets Have No Name
Beautiful Day
Pride
I Still Haven't Found What Im Looking For
Mysterious Ways
Elevation
Vertigo
I Will Follow
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bad
Until The End Of The World
New Year's Day
With Or Without You
One
Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
All I Want Is You

I expect they will dig out quite a bit from BOY for this. Maybe there current setlist might give some clues.

I'd change Stay for Walk On. I just didn't have the same interest in Stay as Walk On, and it was better. Much better.

Discoteque should be MoFo instead. I love that song!

No chance unfortunately, I'd guess that only I will Follow and New Years Day will make it from the early years.

No Electric Co ? i can see them working on that for sure.

i think the clue is in the u2.com story as they refer to U2's 'best known' tracks.

That, in my opinion, rules out Bad, Until, Electric CO etc. I put Gloria in there purely to have a track from October.

Remember, this is a CD for your casual U2 fan, not hardocre like ourselves. So I doubt they'll stray from the obvious favourites too much.

So can we expect this album to be a rehash of the previous Best Of's then ?

JT, AB and ATYCLB are not the 3 bestsellers ?

Of course, it's the purpose, it's a definitive Best Of, only the biggest songs will be in it.
The 80/90 was a success, it can disapear from the catalog of Universal, the 90/00 was a flop, it has to disapear from the catalogue of Universal.
This Best Of will be perfect to attract people who want WOWY, One and BD on the same disc.
I don't imagine a new Best Of in the next 10 years.

Unfortunately this is correct, although I hope that Gloria makes it, but I seriously seriously doubt it.

Pretty close, but there is NO way they would ever release an album of their "most well known songs" without their most well known song - 'Where The Streets Have No Name'

Also, I have a feeling we won't be getting any Pop songs. Replace that with 'All I Want Is You'.

01. City Of Blinding Lights
02. Beautiful Day
03. I Still Haven’t Found What I'm Looking For
04. Stay
05. Vertigo
06. New Year's Day
07. Pride
08. With Or Without You
09. Sunday Bloody Sunday
10. The Saints Are Coming
11. Where The Streets Have No Name
12. I Will Follow
13. Discothèque
14. New Song
15. Mysterious Ways
16. Angel Of Harlem
17. One
18. Bad

Looks like the 5th Leg setlist! :hmm:

1. I Will Follow
2. Sunday Bloody Sunday
3. New Year's Day
4. Pride
6. Where The Streets Have No Name
7. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
8. With or Without You
9. Desire
10. One
11. Mysterious Ways
12. Discotheque
13. Beautiful Day
14. Stuck
15. Vertigo
16. Sometimes

It can't get any more predictable.

I will crap my pants if the deluxe edition is a double CD, and the first one has the chosen songs from the 2 Best Of, and the second disc... has the OTHER songs of the Best Ofs... :|

it depends on what they mean by "most well known hits." I think it's possible you see discotheque sneak onto it, or possibly staring at the sun. discotheque got up to number 10 on the singles chart when it was released didn't it?

that said, i won't be surprised either if pop is omitted.

Here's my prediction:

1. I Will Follow
2. Sunday Bloody Sunday
3. New Year's Day
4. Pride (In the Name of Love)
5. Bad
6. Where the Streets Have No Name
7. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
8. With or Without You
9. Desire
10. Even Better Than The Real Thing
11. One
12. Mysterious Ways
13. Beautufil Day
14. Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
15. Vertigo
16. Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own
17. The Saints Are Coming
18. New Track

Here's a breakdown by decade:

1980s - 9 tracks
1990s - 3 tracks
2000s - 4 tracks

It is my prediction that OCTOBER, ZOOROPA, and POP will be COMPLETELY IGNORED.

Ok, I'll play.

1. I Will Follow
2. New Year's Day (Single Version)
3. Sunday Bloody Sunday
4. Pride (In The Name Of Love)
5. Where The Streets Have No Name (Single Version)
6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
7. With Or Without You
8. Desire
9. Angel Of Harlem
10. One
11. Mysterious Ways
12. Even Better Than The Real Thing
13. Staring At The Sun
14. Beautiful Day
15. Vertigo
16. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
17. New Track
18. The Saints Are Coming

Maybe it will be U2 making choices of their own favourite songs. Anyway here is my guess assuming that this CD spreads the entire career so far

1. Where The Streets Have No Name
2. New Years Day
3. Pride In The Name Of Love
4. I Will Follow
5. Desire
6. All I Want Is You
7. With Or Without You
8. I Still Havent Found What Im Looking For
9. Until The End Of The World
10. One
11. Stay
12. Discotheque
13. Beautiful Day
14. Walk On
15. Vertigo
16. Sometimes You Cant Make It On Your Own

Only my best guess the Track Listing might not be in the right order but I think it will contain these tracks.

My try...

1. Beautiful Day
2. Vertigo
3. Desire
4. I still haven't found what I'm looking for
5. With or without you
6. Mysterious ways
7. Discotheque
8. Elevation
9. I will follow
10. Stay
11. Walk On
12. Sunday bloody Sunday
13. Where the streets have no name
14. One
15. Sometimes you can't make it on your own

16*: it can be: NYD, AIWIY, The Fly (for the 1990-2000 lack), Numb, SATS, SIAMYCGOO or COBL.

All I could put money on is that I believe the first 4 albums will be covered with 4 tracks for this collection.

I Will Follow
Sunday Bloody Sunday
New Year's Day
Pride

Sorry, no songs from October (a big Gloria fan myself).

Pop might not see any either. But I have a feeling Discotheque could make it. It is quite well known (chart wise), even if U2 wish otherwise.

The big 3 Tree songs are in. The 3 from Achtung Baby! won't be so clear. Mysterious Ways and One are the clear choice, but then the fight happens between the Fly and Real Thing. Personally, I hope they go with the Fly this time. Really, they might knock each other out.

Zooropa gets Stay as the lone representation. It wouldn't suprise me though if Zooropa ends up in the same boat as October and Pop. 3 albums not represented.

I hope the rule of "3" applies to Rattle and Hum and we don't see When Love Comes to Town. Desire, Angel of Harlem, and All I Want is You.

Maybe it'll be like this:

I Will Follow
Sunday Bloody Sunday
New Year's Day
Pride
Streets
Still Haven't Found
With or Without You
Desire
Angel of Harlem
All I Want is You
One
Mysterious Ways
The Fly
Beautiful Day
Elevation
Vertigo

The Fly might be the darkhorse here.

Most popular songs might mean 3 albums not represented.

It can't get any more predictable.

Switch "stuck" with "elevation" and you have the new best of.

Does the U2 team or anyone else in here remember the famous www.u2.com (before they were u2.CON) poll?. More than 50000 fans voted for the best songs per album:

I Will Follow
Gloria
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bad
With Or Without You
All I Want Is You
One
Stay
Please
Beautiful Day

If ANY of these songs are missing on the "Definitive" Best Of it will be just a throwaway piece of s***

I strongly believe that they should have included the damn CD (already hated on many U2 forums including interference, u2star, u2spain, atu2, etc) inside U2 by U2 book :yell:
