But considering that many of the reviewers basically say the Coldplay album is a reasonably good U2 album then they still end up competing against themselves. Not to mention that it's also Eno vs. Eno.

Who is ColdPlay? Are they the guys who recently ripped off U2 by borrowing the ZooRopa uniforms for their appearance on the Daily Show?
:sexywink:

Coldplays best albums are only up with U2s worst albums and I think this will be one of U2s best but I am sure that some people here will say Coldplay made a better album, and thats fine. After many listens of the Coldplay album which is a good album I think A Rush Of Blood To The Head is a better album then Viva La Vida. A Rush Of Blood To The Head, MIGHT be the quality of War or UF, but its not up their with U2s best material and that includes this decade of U2.

Bomb and ATYCLB are much better then any material Coldplay has ever done, whether people agree with me I really dont care. Coldplay arent one of the best bands in the world yet they still havent came out with a real classic like Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby or Bends or OK Computer and until they do they will only be good not great.

I liked Parachutes. Since then, it seems like Coldplay is just trying too hard to live up to critics' comparisons of them with U2 and Radiohead.

And, yes, U2's album is better. I have just returned from the future. The album is great. Also, Batman wins the Presidential election. Didn't see that one coming. Or, should I say, I don't see that one coming?

I like Coldplay but their new album is shite. Not very good at all but I must admit it is probably better than HTDATB which is U2s worst album by far and as you can tell, I don't think highly of the bomb. I'm hoping U2s new album will rock our socks off.

Um, I realize a lot of people don't like HTDAAB but really, you think it worse than October. That's a bit extreme. I mean, I actually like October but I still think it is the weakest album they ever made.

So, isn't this about the time Chris Martin should start wearing shiny suits and lipstick while on stage and wearing sunglasses about 80% of the time? Actually, let's give it some time, probably another 2 or 3 coldplay albums before that little bit of "originality" strikes him.

Definitely a couple of more albums to go. Chris Martin keeps calling Viva their Unforgettable Fire so as one reviewer pointed out that means next up should be their Joshua Tree. :hmm:

Reportedly, Coldplay had a poster of UF hanging on their studio wall while recording X&Y. Perhaps they're more visionary than we give them credit for. :hmm:

Coldplay is a shitty band led by a fucking dork who can't even sing. their only good song(shiver) sounds like jeff buckley, and they probably would've been best suited to copy that guy's style rather than u2's.

Speaking of ripping off U2, Lovers in Japan is basically City of Blinding Lights intro into Ultraviolet, give or take some. Then try these lyrics out for size by doing some math. MATH IS FUN!!!...

"I never bought a Lotto ticket
I never parked in anyone's space
And the banks feel like cathedrals because casinos took their place
Luck, come on down
I wake up, she'll come around"

U2, The Playboy Mansion

+

"I went drifting
Through the capitals of tin
Where men can't walk
Or freely talk
And sons turn their fathers in
I stopped outside a church house
Where the citizens like to sit
They say they want the kingdom
But they don't want God in it
...
I went out walking
With a bible and a gun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart

I was sure I was the one"

U2, The Wanderer

=

"Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

Priests clutched onto bibles
Hollowed out to fit their rifles

And the cross was held aloft"

ANSWER: Violet Hill, Viva La Vida, Coldplay
DING, DING, DING. BIG SURPRISE

It's chemistry too. Take a little of obscure U2 song A, add a little more of obscure U2 song B, add water, stir while over bunson burner, and you have instant Coldplay:hyper::nerd::banghead:

All this on top of the Eno thing, the uniform thing, and anything else we've already carved up. I know they are contemporaries, but come on, at least be a little more original Chris :tsk:

Somehow, I still kinda like them

Of course Coldplay are gonna get bashed on here, when compared to U2.

DING DING DING!!!!! BIG SURPRISE!

Anyway, as an album as a whole, I like Viva La Vida by Coldplay better than anything U2 has done (as a whole album) since '87.

You're right, though--those lyrics seem U2-inspired. Good thing the songwriting Coldplay surrounded those lyrics with is actually good (unlike the music U2 surrounded The Playboy Mansion or The Wanderer with).
