Has it sunk on your overall U2 album rankings? Do you like it about the same as you did when it came out ? Or is it even better now, after all this time ?

I think its U2's 2nd best album behind AB. And I think it would have received more praise from the general public but the general pubic doesn't even listen to albums anymore. And the entire NLOTH promotion was a bit

The opening 4 tracks is a monster of an opening rivaling JT and the only problem is SUC (just out of place).

But U2 hit a homerun with NLOTH and they should be happy with their work & not worry about the mass's reaction.

Probably their most polarizing album in terms of quality. Some of the greatest U2 songs recorded...EVER! A lot of really good songs. A couple okay ones. And one of the worst songs ever, out-worsed only by the Yahweh.

I think it's one of their better albums, landing somewhere between 3 and 6 for me depending on when you ask. As ozeeko points out, the discrepancy in quality between the best and worst songs can make the album seem more problematic/worse than it really is. Also, unlike with HTDAAB, my opinion of NLOTH hasn't changed much over the course of a year.

I still feel the same about it.

I think it's a very good album, still don't love those middle few songs that don't feel quite right on the album, still happy that they veered even just a little bit away from the "safe" feel of the last two albums.

great album, no doubt about it. after a year, i would say it ranks in my top 5 of my ever revolving album ranking list. as i just said in another thread, yes, it does have a couple weak tracks (SUC and Crazy), but my top 5 tracks from the album (NLOTH, Magnificent, MOS, UC and Fez-Being Porn) are 5 of my favorite U2 songs ever, and just a notch below that are GOYB, Breathe, WAS, and Cedars. so basically, i love 9 out of 11 tracks. that's normally a sign of a great album.

I love it as it is, but I still wish we could hear it as they came up with it in Fez. An album of future hymns.

After being a candidate for a top 3, it's now in the top 5 for me (just below JT-AB-UF-War but ahead of others).
I'm really enjoying it and it's the first album since Zooropa where I feel like I'm missing something if I don't play it in full.
The Fez-WAS-Cedars trio is a big grower - I wonder if Songs of ascent is anything like it (if Kingdom is anything to go by), and the first four songs are a really strong opening. I only wish Breathe had gone into track 5 position (and a little more lyrical/musical focus instead of "getting lost in the music").

It's below UF, JT, AB, and Zooropa for me. But it started that way too. The first four songs are pretty strong, and MOS is one of the best they've ever done. That one is easily the most inspired song on the album. If tracks 5,6, and 7 had been completely different, this album might have ranked higher.

So overall, the high points of NLOTH are very high, but the low points are shit.

Top 3 for me, middle section stops it challenging AB, hope they follow it with something soon like they did with Zooropa and AB.

Just because it didn't sell and the general public didn't take to it doesn't mean it's not a great album.

1. AB
2. JT / NLOTH

not really changed as an album. still like it a lot, still not in the same league as AB or JT. I enjoy going back to it, but it's not an album i listen to a lot.

definitely hasn't had the staying power of past albums for me. I listened to AB a couple times a week for two years, Pop was constantly played for over a year, same for ATYCLB. I have listened to NLOTH maybe 5 times in the last 6 months. it's the first time u2 had released an album and it wasn't the most played album of the year for me.

Definitely stayed on top for me. I still listen to it more than any other album right now. It's in my top 3 U2 albums which makes it somewhere near the top of my all-artists album list as well since U2 are my favorite band it's kind of a given. But there isn't a song I don't like on it, which is saying a lot for any album. U2 did good. I hope they know that.

It's about the same, which is probably a good sign. Opinions tend to level off after about a year/whenever the touring cycle ends. NLOTH is somewhat inconsistent, a little jumpy, but bubbling over with passion and great ideas. Very good album, and there's a lot to build on here.

NLOTH, TJT and Pop all fight for second place in my "ranking" after AB. The first 4 and last 4 are of the highest U2 quality and the middle three are just good. Still love it and it still gets played about once every 2 weeks.

Same here!

really, add UF and Zooropa to that list, and i agree.

1. The Joshua Tree
2. Achtung Baby
3. NLOTH

Those three middle-songs do drag down the album a little, although I don't think it would've beaten AB even with better songs replacing them (well, guess it depends on how much better). It's still an awesome album and its best parts are some of the best of their career.

It's okay. Probably on the same level as Unforgettable Fire for me. The anticipation was stronger than the payoff. I LOVED it up front, but it doesn't get the same kind of play a year later.
