2014 Bono needs to consult 1983 Bono about the new album.

The Bono of 2014 should go back and listen to the Bono of 1983 for a minute.

BONO INTERVIEW at US FESTIVAL 1983 U2 - YouTube

Particularly the last minute or so from the above listed video. Just a thought. If they did, they wouldn't be second guessing themselves and that then causing all of the album delays.

Great thread bro

We should all stay the same and be like our 1985 selves.

He probably should have kept the same haircut too...

DISSIDENT ALERT!

Bono may not have the same haircut he had 30 years ago, neither the band behaves the same way they did back then. But on the other hand, it's been a decade and a half since they're making and releasing the same old kind of music with almost no changes.

Sure it looks bad to compare a band from its early days to its old days. The band was still trying to prove something then.

As long as he's not consulting the hair stylist he had back then, I'm fine with it

shows you how much people can change. He basically advocated not caring about market trends and just putting out records. Quite the diagonal opposite from what he is saying now. To be fair, I wonder if 1983 Bono thought that it would still matter 31 years later what type of record U2 were putting out.

Being 23, he probably didn't think three years ahead, never mind 30!

I am so happy this interview was posted because I have taken so much shit here for saying that Bono used to feel the way he did in that clip. I remember seeing clips of that interview in one of those video specials that Much Music (Canadian MTV before MTV Canada) used to air.

It's interesting that attitude led the creation of classic albums while their current method of operation has led to forgettable records and critical failures.

They need to just make music that they love and not worry about the rest.

So which ones are defined as forgettable and critical failures? R&H, Pop, NLOTH? Does this define your "current method"?

To be fair it's easier to shape trends when you're young than when you're in your 50's...

In addition, the business has changed...and the band are in a drastically different stage in their career.

So lets keep this in context...
