Pregnancy and going to a U2 Concert??

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

He is a pregnancy specialist too!! Seriously hilarious reply!!!

I am definitely getting seats if Im preggers. That was never in question. I would never want to be standing all day and be so close to other people all smashed up in GA.
I am just fine with a seat! I would just die though if I had to sit at home while U2 is in town!

Oh I thought you were debating the whole GA thing! I don't see anything wrong at all with getting seats, even if you're huge.

No.... we just havent had the best luck with pregnancy so far so we want to make sure we don't do anything to put it at risk...

My sister-in-law attended a concert when she was 2 or 3 months pregnant. Six rows from the front of the stage, seats available (although she stood up in the seat and kind of danced a little to the music). She miscarried; doesn't necessarily mean it was because of attending the concert and being more physically active at it than she probably should've been, but she had had a normal, healthy pregnancy 3 years earlier. It might've happened anyway, who knows? But I do know she has always wondered about it and blamed herself.

It would be very disappointing to miss a U2 concert, that's understandable. But potentially putting the baby at risk for a concert is selfish and unconscionable imo. The welfare of the child (and mother) is of paramount importance; desiring to attend a concert is not. I just wouldn't want to take the risk of any possible detrimental affects to the baby.

Yes I would definitely go for seats. You should be fine. If I had known I'd be pregnant when I bought my GA tickets, I wouldn't of bought them. I was 5 months along, but everything was fine. We stood for hours talking to people in the crowd. They all knew I was pregnant (but wasn't showing much) and they were all nice and helpful.

What better place to use my first real post than PLEBA? Hi girls and boys. My wife was about six months pregnant when we attended one of the Boston Vertigo shows. It was a really amazing experience for her because Bono dedicated OOTS to "all the babies in bellies" in the audience. She still loves telling people that story and she was more of a casual fan before that. She said that the baby was really bouncing around to the bass and drums and that baby, now four years old, wants to be a drummer. So it worked out fine for us, but we did have seats.

Gentle exercise is absolutely fine during normal pregnancy including dancing, just don't go mad and jump about too much, (easier said than done mind when it's U2).
I saw a few bands when I was pregnant. I think I was 6-7 months when I saw REM which was fine but just from a comfort factor it may not be so much fun if you're really heavily pregnant, if nothing else you'll be wanting to go to the loo all the time! And try to avoid what happened to one of my friends during Elevation who found out her due date was the same week that U2 were due to play near her

I think it depends on the songs. Seriously, I once heard U2 on the radio (yeeeeeeaaars ago) and they were asked by a caller what U2 songs she should play to her unborn child. I think Bono said something like 'Grace' (ah yes it was about the atyclb time) because I don't know why because but then I think he mumbled something about 'well now that I think about the lyrics maybe it isn't THAT appropriate'. I'm not sure his brain was really engaged :giggle:and none of the others said anything at all.........

SO! I THINK you should definately VET the album to see if it is really what you want he/she to hear because concerts are LOUD.

'just don't inhale? I'm sorry that's dumb. :tsk:

I actually think you should see how you feel at the time  OR you could wait for the dvd. :)wink:)

Huh. I don't think U2 fans are likely to injure you at all. In fact, if they know you're pregnant at the time, they're more likely to be helpful. U2 fans are famous for being the most polite, gentle, caring people ever. I'd go, if you're not feeling sick as a dog.

I mean, whyever not? I'd just try not to be too close to the drums - Larry is /loud/.

Hey Marisa: Just wanted to put my two cents in on this as well. I think you should just plan as you ordinarily would, then see what's going on at that point in time. Depending on how far along you are -- you could probably arrange something that's doable. I talked my friend into coming to the opening night of Vertigo in San Diego with me (I got her seats, I was on the floor) and she gave birth about 2 weeks later. She was tired, but that was about it. I went to several concerts (not U2, though) while pregnant, and my babies seemed to seriously dig it. I saw Rod Stewart (hmmm, that seems weird, but I think a friend had free tickets) when I was about 5 months preg with my 2nd child -- and we ended up in the front row. As I recall, he (my baby) seemed to enjoy it -- he was going crazy that night! Anyway, as long as you don't put yourself in harms way, I'm sure you'll be fine. Those little people are actually pretty well protected in there! Good luck!

I think it's less a seat problem. The bass is often sooooo loud - everything is vibrating - I go to a lot of concerts. And you can protect your ears but your organs? Sometims I really started to getting afraid for my health - my inner organs...

I was going to ask this same question too! I am going through IVF right now for my second child and I had been thinking that I may welll be expecting a baby around the time they hit glasgow. Are the seated sections quite far from the stage? I would still want to be up close to the band.

Lots of comments about babies "rockin" in the womb at concerts. That might not be because they enjoyed it, it may be they were disturbed by the sound.

I remember the Elevation tour in Montreal...a woman was QUITE far along, and somehow got on stage (I think she might have had GC tickets?) and Bono kissed her belly and danced with her....it can be a great prop!

I was almost 8 months along with my son when I saw the lads on Vertigo. Hubby and I were at the Pittsburgh show (had to skip Cleveland because of my due date), and I had a blast! I was exhausted by the end of it, from standing the entire time. We had seats rather than risk any problems down in GA, but it was still an amazing time. My son was born healthy as a horse 4 weeks after the show, and is now a 3 yr old U2 fan. :)

The Vertigo tour lasted so long, both my daughters attended shows while they were in utero (and no, they're not twins). I could not have handled GA - (the required frequent required bathroom breaks alone were enough to rule that out for me), but with seats it's fine - (actually, great) - (and everyone at the show seems to want to provide you with "interesting" suggestions for U2-related names for the baby). (I am now trying to decide whether my 3-year old is old enough for the next tour - I fear not, but can't wait to introduce my kids to the joys of U2 live).

I attended the 1st Sydney Vertigo concert with my two brothers, niece, nephew, two sisters-in-law and my 9-month pregnant sister! My sister Natalie purchased the tickets originally, but then the tour was postponed. Turned out the re-scheduled dates fell on her due date. Given it had been a long time since the band had toured Australia and there was no guarantee they'd be back anytime soon, she didn't want to miss out.

Natalie is right even when she is wrong. Unless she gave birth in the days leading up to the show, nothing was going to stop her. We sat in B-Reserve seats and folks in the stadium were very accommodating. It turned out that Larry and Bono on drums together caused her to pack it in. So she snuck out with my sister-in-law Jodee at the end of "Love and Peace or Else". The remaining 6 of us found out after the show that she was taken to hospital by her husband and a few hours later gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

TISH AND PISH.....your baby would be safe in its little fluid home. You put and egg in a plastic bag full of water and try and smash it!

My daughter in law went to concerts all through her pregnancies. In the beginning she was tired, the second trimester she felt the best and at the end she was very happy to have a great seat. She always had a seat available and stood when she could. My grandsons certainly LOVE music now though! They would go to sleep as they listened to the concerts they "went to" inutero!

 it's funny this thread escaped my attention right when I found out I was pregnant.
I have bought tickets for both Milan and London, where I will be respectively five and six and a half months pregnant. I choose seats straight away, but never had a doubt about whether to go or not.
I guess it depends on how you are in general.

My only concern now is how the little thing inside will take the loud music, but I am planning to start him up soon on live U2 dvds played from my dolby surround system.

This baby MUST be a U2 fan. at all costs.

Your little one is fine inside the womb with the loudness, I'd keep that dolby system down after though.

A certain U2 fan in the making, my children became fans in utero as well!

I don't know about the noise... when i was pregnant, i had a 32-week scan in Paris and my baby was facing head up. I hopped on a plane to London the next day, the engines roared as the plane started to get going and he did this huge leap in my tummy - knocked the air outta me and was a little scary! I then had another scan the day after i arrived (was having 2 lots of antenatal care as i wasn't sure at the time where i was going to give birth) and my baby was head down! he did a complete flip in the plane because of the noise! poor little guy! those engines really made him jump! literally!
