1982-02-19: St Louis, MO.

The first time I saw U2 was March 26th, 1982. They were opening for J. Geils Band (in San Diego, CA).

This picture set was from a little bit more than a month before... when U2 were playing in St. Louis, on February 19th, 1982.

Have a look and travel back in the 'Way Back Machine' to a time when The Edge had hair, Adam had a `Fro, Bono was still climbing the lighting rigs and Larry still looked 14.

Nice Edge_O! Feb 19th? That's 2 days before my birthday! Not of that year though.

I liked this photo set as it is from near the first time that I ever saw or heard of U2. I was blown away, when they opened for J. Geils. I remember asking my friend "WHO was that band that opened... OH MY, they were fun!". Just a ball of energy... I soon found out the name and off to the local record store I went.

I came home that day with a 7" vinyl copy of "11 O'Clock Tick Tock".

Really great quality set of photos. Do you still have that copy of 11 O'Clock Tick Tock? Wish I could have seen a show then.

Just fabulous, E_O !!!

Where did the photos come from? A friend? Some of them are really cool!
They're not "proffesional" photos in the sense that a professional would have been allowed to use a flash.

I know b/c I was taking rock concert photos with an SLR camera from 1970 - early 80's before they REALLY started clamping down on fans bringing SLR type cameras into non-club bigger venues.

People like me (non-prof) were allowed to use the SLRs as long as we didn't use a flash. Some SLR's had the bracket ?the "hot shoe" I think a nick name either the for the bracket itself, the flash unit on the SLR, or the electrical component to power the flash. So our photos were usually grainer (than most pro's), esp if we were blowing up smaller sections. Sometimes I was so close they weren't too grainy b/c I didn't have to really crop a picture.

Mannnn, some times soooo frustating, often sooooooooo fabulous, joyful, ecstatic, powerful to capture the perfomance(s) !
