Add GLORIA, Ive been listening to that song a lot lately. I love the two verses:

I try to sing this song
I...I try to stand up
But I can't find my feet
I try, I try to speak up
But only in you I'm complete

and

I try to sing this song
I...I try to get in
But I can't find the door
The door is open
You're standing there
You let me in

I love from "When Love Comes to Town:"

I ran into the juke joint when I heard the guitar scream
The notes were turning blue, I was dazing in a dream
As the music played I saw my life turn around
But that was the day before love came to town

These are great, guys! I'm sure I could think of more but my brain is just not a part of my body anymore.

From "Heartland:"

See the sun rise over her skin
She feels like water in my hands

I just realized that this thread is pretty old and I'm kind of erecting it from the dead.

I'm telling you. No brain.

Hmmm, one that sticks out to me is from 'Lemon':

Babyface, babyface
You're everywhere child
All over the place

for some reason, makes me think of orgasm...

That's not from Lemon...

"A picture in gray.....Dorian Gray....just me,... by the sea..."

The Ocean has always been one of my faves. I love being near the sea, and this line seemed to capture a quiet, yet contently haunted form of lonesomeness, which I can relate to.

I think mine has to be...

'turn it up, turn it up , you turn me on"
hmmmmmmm loverly. this quote is from a song on the 1990-2000 special eddition, can't remember the song title though

"You put your lips to her lips, to stop the lie" - So Cruel
(been there, done that)

"He says he's gonna kick the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight" - God Part II
(been there to...)

"I have a vision...I have a vision...TELEVISION !!!"
Desire live '93

A lots of others...

yep, duh, it's from BABYFACE (gee, you'd think I could take a hint, eh?) Sorry! }~ I'm stuck on Lemon, I just can't think of any particular lyric.. gotta funky groove though...

let's see if I can get these right...

Love is blindness
I don't wanna see
Won't you wrap the night around me?
Love Is Blindness

The seasons change and so do I
Indian Summer Sky

Smile
Though your heart breaks in two
Touch me
When will I be with you?
Treasure

No one
No one is blinder than he who will not see
No one
No one is blinder than me
I Threw a Brick Through a Window

hmm hmm hmm...

}:)~

That's from "In a Little While."

I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide

-- "When Love Comes To Town"

The last of the opera stars
When hip-hop drove the big cars

-- "Kite", Bob Hewson memorial version

All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break...

-- "Walk On". I love how Bono ripped off the outro to Pink Floyd's bleak, nihilistic album "Dark Side of the Moon" and turned it into something positive and joyous.

:hmm: I love these ones:

"You've been falling off the sidewalk, your lips move but you can't talk"

"You're kept awake dreaming someone elses dream"

"When you stop seeing beauty, you start growing old
The lines on your face are a map to your soul"

this one is very significant to me...

"Innocent, and in a sense I am
Guilty of the crime that's now in hand
Such a nice day
Throw your life away
Such a nice day
Let it go"
-- Wire

and I like this one...

"You hurt yourself you hurt your lover
Then you discover
What you thought was freedom is just greed"
-- Gone

ang many more, of course :)

This is a hard question. The first lines that come to mind are lines that are sort of hidden. One of my favorites is "What are we going to do now that it's all been said. No new ideas in the house and every book has been read" from Acrobat. This always gives me chills. IMO, it is very deep and observant of what the emotions are in a busted relationship. I also love "We move through miracle days" from Mysterious Ways. I'll leave it at that, because this is another one of those questions where my answers could go one forever.

when the night takes a deep breath,
and the daylight has no end...

"in a little while" is such a beautiful song, really touches me :cute:

here are a couple of lines I absolutely love:
"True colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken skies and burning flack
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes"
from Bad.

"Stuck together with God's glue"
SATS

"I know I'm not a hopeless case
What you don't have, you don't need it now
What you don't know, you can feel it somehow"
BD

There are of course many others.

ok there are so damn many, as U2 are virtually the only poetic geniuses that embed their creativity in their music. Here are a couple
From Elvis Presley and America (fav. Unforgettable Fire song, am I the only one who absolutely loves this song?)
'You say go, you live
Go live outside of me
Don't you leave
Don't leave out part of me
Then I can feel
Like I feel before
Like it hurt now
And I see the floor
If you pick me up
Bits and pieces on this floor' (one of the best endings to a U2 song, many chills down the back!)

From Luminous times (Hold onto love), brilliant and enchanting tune and I get that special shiver when bono says 'I love you because I need to, Not because I need you.'

Classic from Out of Control
'One day I'll die
The choice will not be mine
Will it be too late
You can't fight fate'

From the First Time (lyrics right around the chord change, exhillerating!)
'My father is a rich man
He wears a rich man's cloak
Gave me the keys to his kingdom coming
Gave me a cup of gold
He said I have many mansions
And there are many rooms to see
But I left by the back door
And I threw away the key
And I threw away the key
Yeah, I threw away the key
Yeah, I threw away the key'

From Stateless
'I've got no home in this world, just gravity, luck, and time.
I've got no home in this world, just you, and you are not mine'

Like a Song, brilliant, poeitc and politically charged (I wrote a creative story on this song discussing its meaning in relation to todays issues if anyone would care for a read)
'Angry words won't stop the fight
Two wrongs won't make it right
A new heart is what I need
Oh God, make it bleed
Is there nothing left...'

And from All because of you, the unreleased new song! This is my interpretation of the lyrics that people seem to accept.
'Stole your hand across the world
Shadow cast across my room,
You ailing is my cue
The light in the confusion.' (love this line)

That's all I can think of right now, there are so many im forgetting. Please reply with any opinions!

ISHAFWILF

"I belive in the kingdom come,
then all the colors will bleed into one...bleed into one
but yes I'm still running"

Staring at the Sun

"Theres an insect in your ear,
if you scratch it won't dissappear
it's gonna itch and burn and sting you wanna see what the scratching brings..."

Streets

"I wanna run, I want to hide
I wanna tear down the walls that hold me inside
I wanna reach out and touch the flame
..Where the streets have no name"

One Tree Hill

"I don't believe in painted roses or bleeding hearts
while bullets rape the night of the mericful
I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky
and the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill."

and then the ending: "Oh great ocean, oh great sea....
run to the ocean...run to the sea."

Beautiful Day

"What you don't have you don't need it now,
what you don't know you can feel some how
what you don't have you don't need it now...don't need it now"

And the quote from Please that gav9519 posted.

I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky
and the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill

i simply cannot pick just one... so here it goes... i'll do my best to choose ones that have not yet been recognized, or deserve to be repeated

So Cruel
"I'm only hanging on to watch you go down... my love"

"You put your lips to her lips to stop the lie"

"Then she makes you watch her from above, and you need her like a drug"

God Part II
"Instant karma's going to get him, if I don't get him first
Don't believe in rock 'n' roll, can really change the world
As it spins in revolution, it spirals and turns
I... I believe in love"

The Fly
"A man will beg, a man will crawl. On the sheer face of love, like a fly on a wall"

Exit
"He went deeper into black, deeper into white. Could see the stars shining, like nails in the night .... Healing hands of love,
like the stars shiny shiny from above"

Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World
"And a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle, when you're tryin' to throw your arms around the world"

Every single word in Kite is perfection:up: and one is probably one of the greatest songs ever written

i went a little crazy, but come on people... it's so hard to choose one lyric to classify as U2's greatest, am i right?

:eyebrow: Hey-I thought you said just ONE. he-lol1 Pun intended! So- since the rules have been broken..like it said all over my tests today...ALL THE Above!!! Hee=I love their music cuz it just says so much, to so many, so many ways..! Ahh-gimme more!!! hee:wink:

This is a difficult one, cuz Bono has a lyric for whatever train of thought or emotion I may feel.. but here's a few that crop up quite often.

Cuz I think love sux: Love is clockwork and cold steel (love is blindness)

When I have to teach a horrible class: Don't let the bastards grind you down (Acrobat)

When I'm sad and confused: Jesus, Jesus help me, I'm alone in the world, and a ****** up world it is too...listen to your words, they'll tell you what to do... (Wake Up Dead Man) and, "ahhahh, the deeper I spin..." (Wild Horses)

but I think my life is summed up thus: You could have flown away, a singing bird in an open cage, who will only fly, only fly, for freedom... (Walk on)

!

Indeed I would! I did one on Sunday Bloody Sunday as a model story for my year 12 English class. The students had to find a poem and transfer the theme and the socio-cultural context into a narrative genre. I explored the SBS's theme of frustration and futility, setting the story in Belfast in the early 80's. Powerful inspiration, the War album.

"Colours crash, collide in bloodshot eyes"

Or anything from UF, it's all beautiful...

Or this verse from The First Time, if I remember it right:

My father is a rich man
He wears a rich man's cloak
Gave me the keys to his kingdom coming
gave me a cup of gold
He said I have many mansions
And there are many rooms to see
But I left by the back door
And I threw away the key

Gives me shivers...

A few more...

"We run like a river to the sea"

"your holy war, your northern star, your sermon on the mount from the boot of your car"

"Desert Sky, dream beneath the desert sky, the rivers run but soon run dry, we need new dreams tonight"

"Don't believe in excess, success is to give, don't believe in riches but you should see where I live"

"Midnight is where the day begins"

Most of Gone and Love is Blindness

"A new friend, a new perspective, looking down on my objectives"

"And love is not the easy thing, the only baggage that you can bring is all that you can't leave behind"

The Wanderer
