This song has confused me ever since I first heard it. I could never really figure out what it meant, and what I thought it meant changed every once in a while. . . Any thoughts? I'll post my own opinions in a bit, I just don't want to be the first and be totally off, hehe.

Bono spoke about "Vertigo" being a (metaphorical) nightclub.

I think it's pretty clear that the lyric concerns getting lost in the world and finding your way back with spiritual focus (the drunk, dancing fool who wants to get out of that skanky club sees "Jesus round (the) neck" of a dancing girl". Or to put it another way, it concerns how we're never lost in total vertigo because we always have a place to land, spiritually-speaking. The "all of this can be yours / just give me what I want..." bit has often been compared to Matthew 4 where the Devil tries to tempt Jesus.

The "your love is teaching me how to kneel" is pretty clear in this context.

But I'm not sure whether "the boys" knowing that they don't know how to dance is supposed to be funny, or if Bono/Edge had something else in mind...
