So Cruel (I can feel the pain on this one)

Of course there are many more good lyric songs from the band. I'm very intrigued by Every Breaking Wave at the moment. Though it would be nice to get official lyrics.

Sometimes you can't make it on your own & Sunday, Bloody Sunday rules my heart. Especially the final in Sometimes. When I had problems with my best friend and it seemed like the end of our friendship, I listened to it a lot. It was very painful for me and I cried so hard but I realized that no one else won't be as important as her. And I felt so close to Bono singing about his dad.

I know that we don't talk
I'm sick of it all
Can, you, hear, me, when, I, sing?
You're the reason I sing
You're the reason why the opera is in me...

Well hey now, still gotta let ya know
A house doesn't make a home
Don't leave me here alone

And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you that makes it hard to let go
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
Sometimes you can't make it
Best you can do is to fake it
Sometimes you can't make it on your own

When I listen to Sunday I feel like Bono. I feel that his words could be mine; he says something like: 'Hey people, what did you do to world and the others?'. I see bad things happening every day and I can't understand them. And make them go away.

I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes
And make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long...
'cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...

Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall

These two lyrics are among my favourites too. Hard to say which is better, first describes a relationship between people who are both close and far from each other, second is a reaction for violence and injustice. Both have a very universal message.

I see in Poland we have a similar musical taste :D

Running to Stand Still, Until the End of the World, Acrobat, Ultra Violet,... Practically every song on Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree has great lyrics.

Stay (that song made me a devoted fan)
Zoo Station
The Fly
Until the End of the World
Zooropa
Your Blue Room
Heaven and Hell
Dancing shoes
Exit
11 O'clock Tick Tock
Two Shot's of Happy
Holy Joe
Twilight (sounded a bit shady to me the first time)
A Day Without me
shadows and tall trees
The unforgettable Fire
Wake up dead man
Mofo
Winter
Goldeneye
Turn off the Dark

I feel like I'll end up with an never-ending list here.

You're dangerous 'cause you're honest
You're dangerous, you don't know what you want
Well you left my heart empty as a vacant lot
For any spirit to haunt

Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey

You're an accident waiting to happen
You're a piece of glass left there on the beach
Well you tell me things I know you're not supposed to
Then you leave me just out of reach

Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la

Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee

Well you stole it 'cause I needed the cash
And you killed it 'cause I wanted revenge
Well you lied to me 'cause I asked you to
Baby, can we still be friends

Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la

Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee

Oh, the deeper I spin
Oh, the hunter will sin for your ivory skin
Took a drive in the dirty rain
To a place where the wind calls your name
Under the trees the river laughing at you and me
Hallelujah, heavens white rose
The doors you open
I just can't close

Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, your gypsy heart
Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, and don't look back
Come on now love, don't you look back

Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna taste your salt water kisses
Who's gonna take the place of me

why goldeneye? just curious x

This I can apply for most James Bond themes, I like the drama in them, it's like listening to a soap-opera sometimes.
For Goldeneye in particular it has a sad/pathetic, obsessed stalker vibe to it. I think the female perceptive is quite funny, especially when hearing Bono singing it with a MacPhisto voice.

See reflections on the water
More than darkness in the depths
See him surface in every shadow
On the wind I feel his breath
Goldeneye I found his weakness
Goldeneye he'll do what I please
Goldeneye no time for sweetness
But a bitter kiss
Will bring him to his knees
You'll never know how I watched you
From the shadows as a child
You'll never know how it feels
To be the one who's left behind

You'll never know the days, the nights,
The tears, the tears I've cried
But now my time has come
And time, time is not on your side
See him move through smoke and mirrors
Feel his presence in the crowd
Other girls they gather around him
If I had him I wouldn't let him out
Goldeneye not lace or leather
Golden chain take him to the spot
Goldeneye I'll show him forever
It'll take forever to see what I've got
You'll never know how I watched you
From the shadows as a child
You'll never know how it feels
To get so close and be denied

It's a gold and honey trap
I've got for you tonight
Revenge is to kiss,
This time I won't miss
Now I've got you in my sight
With a Goldeneye,
Golden, Goldeneye
With a Goldeneye, Goldeneye

So Cruel is the worst song on AB and one of U2's weakest.

Otherwise, the lyrics on the album are fine.

You probably think Elevation or Vertigo is their best. But to each his own.

Hands down "So Cruel" for me too. You've never been in love and had your heart broken before if you don't understand the ache in these lyrics. Not their greatest musically but Bono knocked it out with the lyrics.

Also love...
All i want is you
Moment of surrender
Running to stand still
