A friend once told me about a few sexual lyric interpretations for a few of U2's songs. I never knew of this or interpreted the lyrics like this but it has shed some new light on the songs for me. I want to know if they are in fact relating to sex or was my friend just using his immagination.

1. Song: Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses?
Lyrics in question: " Who is going to taste your saltwater kisses?"
What is a saltwater kiss? My friend explaned to me that a saltwater kiss is a kiss that tastes salty due to a foreign salty substance in ones mouth(ejaculate).

2. Song: Kite
Lyrics in question:
"‘Cause hardness, it sets in,
You need some protection, the thinner the skin"

This one seems a little more obvious. So hardness sets in, then you need some protection, the thinner the better. I'm trying not to make the lyrics sound sick but this one just does.

3. Song: Hold Me Thrill Me, Kiss me, kill me
Lyrics in question:
The whole orgasm at the end of the song. What is that about? Do we need to hear Bono moaning like that? How does that add to the song?

4. Song: So Cruel
Lyrics in question:
"I'm only hanging on to watch you go down, my love." & "Then she makes you watch her from above"
Both of these, according to my friend, have to do with oral sex. Any merit to this?

5. Song: Mysterious Ways
Lyrics in question:
"If you want to kiss the sky, better learn how to kneel
On your knees, boy!"
Also having to deal with oral sex.

SO, what are your thoughts? I never thought of U2 to be so sexual in their songs. Most of these come from the AB era. Maybe that was sexual time for them.

Are these lyrics sexaully based?

ARe any other U2 songs sexually based?

My thoughts is that your friend is sick. That one on Kite and HMTMKMKM are ridiculous.

But the one on Mysterious Ways is true, but it's all double meaning, that's the cool thing about it. There are others here and there, mainly on AB.

HMTMKMKM is a very sexual song in my opinion, The Achtung ones most definitely have sexual undertones i always thought Even Better has quite a few which im sure youll get, Kite on the other hand thats plain

Woohoo
I've always had a feeling that its about God
Funny thing... Shows how differently u2 lyrics can be interpreted

Yes we do need to hear the moaning like that

And it adds ambiance

Also from AB - Acrobat - "and you can swallow, or you can spit..."

YEs, I forgot to add that one. That is probably the most blatent. The others from AB require a little insight.

There is alot of sex in U2 live performances of BTBS down the years have a good bit of moaning in em too

dont forget about 'one':
"Did i disappoint you,
Leave the bad taste in your mouth"

Zoo Station

''I'm ready for the push", onstage at the Sydney concert 4 sure The Fly did a thrust w/ this line

EBTTRT

"Gonna blow right thru ya like a breeze", mayb...

To paraphrase Freud, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. This lyric is not sexual.

I don't agree with that "One" lyric. When he says bad taste in your mouth, I think he means he is disgusted by the person, they give you a bad taste in your mouth. But that bad taste isn't because you just give them head.

In general though, I agree, AB has a lot of sexual references.

Bono does this deliberately i think...........
Daddy's gonna pay

Daddy gives you as much as you can take
Butterfly kisses up and down your wrist
When you see daddy coming
You're licking your lip

Desire
And the fever when I'm beside her (used to be inside her)
Desire, desire...

And the fever...getting higher
Desire, desire...burning, burning

ISWTVD
Tonight the moon has drawn its curtains
It's a private show
No one else going to know

Peace on Earth
Where I grew up
There weren't many trees
Where there was we'd tear them down
And use them on our enemies ..................... lol

 LMAO!!

For those who don't think Kite has a sexual connotation, just read/listen to the first verse and put a twist on it. You are probably right, it most likely doesn't have anything to do with sex but it will certainly change the way you look at the song.

"Something is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it means
I'm not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to live
And when I'm flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did

‘Cause hardness, it sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin"

Peace on Earth is genius,

Ahh howabout Hallelujah here she comes, :applaud: :applaud:

Bono seriously does this alot and probably intends to continue doing so.

we're going to have to stop soon or i don't know what might happen:lmao:

Another Time Another Place is about losing your virginity imo

Being naked and afraid
In the open space of my bed

I awoke with a tear on my tongue
I awoke with a feeling of never before

LOL, how about "Until the End of the World"? An Cat Dubh? There are a TON of U2 songs we could mention... *G*

"Surrounding me, going down on me
Spilling over the brim." ;)

Oh, God yes!

That said, I think your friend is rather nuts to see anything sexual in Kite. I admit that Achtung Baby has a fair number of sexual undertones, but Kite? Come on.

I'm going to have one hell of a time keeping a straight face the next time I listen to this song.

If some of U2's lyrics have sexual overtones, at least they are subtle and we really have to think about them. It's not like Bono's singing, "Hey ho, I want to fuck you in half!"

Edited because punctuation is the shit!
