"Rise Above" Lyrics

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Could be wrong, but here goes:

Carney:
And you shall rise above,
Open your eyes up,
And you shall rise above,
(But) I can't, I can't.

Bono:
How long will it take,
Before these feelings go away?
How much longer do I wait,
And are there any real answers,
Anyway?

Your silence in a crowded room,
Louder than the loudest tune,
I hang on every word...

Carney:
And you shall rise above,
Open your eyes up.
And you shall rise above,
(But) I can't, I can't.

Bono:
I miss you and everything,
I was too fast travelling,
To take you in.

(I know) silence is no crime,
Just wish I could hear you fill it up one more time.

(Yes I) know what you'd say to me,
Exactly what you'd say to me,
I still hang on every word...

Carney:
And you shall rise above,
Open your eyes up.
And you shall rise above,
Yourself.

All:
In a time of treason,
Is there time for trust?
When there's no them,
Only us.

Is there time for reason,
Has your heart had enough?
Is there time to let go,
And rise above?

Carney:
And you shall rise above,
Open your eyes to love.
And you shall rise above,
Yourself.

"I miss you and everything"? "I was too fast traveling?" Wow. Bono manages to outdo himself on clunkers yet again. Pretty hohum overall.

it's either say or said - or both at different points in the song. not shall. everything else looks good though.

As was stated, Broadway musical lyrics are not typical lyrics. Some plays are entirely sung (no speaking parts). As a result, there are some "clunker lyrics" as the play has to be told through song.

I really think people aren't getting what this song is for and are confusing it as some U2 song.

That said, is it really any better than "and you give yourself away... and you give yourself away, and you give, and you give, and you give yourself away"?

I also think in either the 2nd or 3rd chorus he sings 'Open Your Eyes To Love'

The lyrics according to the booklet:

And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
I can’t, I can’t

How long will it take
Before these feelings go away?
How much longer do I wait
And are there any real answers anyway?
Your silence in a crowded room
Louder than the loudest tune
I hang on every word

And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
I can’t, I can’t

I miss you in everything
I was traveling too fast to take you in
I know silence is no crime
I just wish I could hear you fill it up
One more time
Yes, I know what you’d say to me
Exactly what you’d say to me
I still hang on every word

And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
Yourself

In a time of treason
Is there time for trust?
Where there’s no them, only us
Is there time for reason?
Has your heart had enough?
Is it time to let go?

And rise above
And you said rise above
Open your eyes up
And you said rise above
Yourself

I thought it was "I miss you IN everything." That's a good line.

It is.

I really really like that song, still like it. I quite like many songs on the Spiderman soundtrack and think Bono and Edge did a good job. Those songs aren't U2 songs, they are for Broadway and it's good that way.

In Rise Above I also like

In a time of treason
Is there time for trust?

I quite like the whole part of the song when the voices kick in, it has quite a nice build-up.

Just listened to the song the other day and thought: Wow, not a bad song.

I wish they'd performed Boy falls from the sky more often because I prefer the U2 version over the cast recording.
