Check interference lyric archive for translation

I know some italian and I remember reading the translation and it seemed fine. Perhaps somebody an confirm... any Italians around here?

Well I'm not Italian, but I studied it at university for 3 years, so perhaps I might do as a stand-in...I just went over to the lyric archive to have a look. The translation does look pretty accurate, as one:love suggested.

Only a couple of points to make: the first line 'Dici che il fiume' should maybe be 'you say that the river' rather than 'they say that a river'. And the bit about not being able to love any more could also be translated as 'I dont know how to love anymore'.

But that's just being picky - and bear in mind that as a non-native, and certainly non-fluent speaker, I'm no expert!!!
hope this helped, anyway

I'm Italian and I can tell ypu that the translation is good. The only mistakes are:
Dici che il fiume = You say that the river
E quell'amore non so pi? aspettare = And I cannot wait for that love anymore

Here's a more accurate translation of these lines:

E non so pi? pregare
E nell'amore non so pi? sperare
E quell'amore non so pi? aspettare

And I don't know how to pray anymore
And I don't know how to hope in love anymore
And (for) that love i don't know how to wait any longer

as for the previous lines thre are a few inacuracies but nothing major the problem is actually whether the transcription in Italian is any accurate - I don't know if there ever was an original source or it was put down by ear

To Wanderer: ignore my posts!!!

To flyanto:

sorry to step onto your turf (you being an Italian and me not) but how would you translate these back into Italian:
(taken from the lyrics archive linked to by interference.com)
And I'm not able to pray anymore
And I cannot hope in love anymore
And I cannot wait for love anymore

This is my translation back into Italian:
E non sono piu capace di pregare
E non posso piu sperare nell amore
e non posso piu aspettare per l'amore

the difference I'm trying to point out is between the verbs "non so" and "not able" in the original italian version and its english translation in the archives.
So = Sapere = to know
able/capable = essere capace
I cannot = non posso

If i'm wrong, then I'll be glad if you could put me right - thanks.

Frogboat, you're right, I cannot=non posso, but it means also "non so, non sono capace", and I think that translation is more suitable for that context.
That's just my opinion...

Ciao,
I am Italian and I think I can help you.
Here you are the translation, I hope it's a quite good one.

DICI CHE IL FIUME
you say that the river
TROVA LA VIA AL MARE
finds the way to the sea
E COME IL FIUME
and just like the river
TU GIUNGERAI A ME
you will reach me
OLTRE I CONFINI
beyond the borders
E LE TERRE ASSETATE
and the thirsty lands
DICI CHE COME IL FIUME
you say that like the river
COME IL FIUME
like the river
L'AMOR
Love
GIUNGERA'
will come
L'AMORE...
Love...
E NON SO PIU' PREGARE
And I can't pray anymore
E NELL'AMORE NON SO PIU' SPERARE
And I can't hope for love anymore
E QUELL'AMORE NON SO PIU' ASPETTARE
And I can't wait for that love anymore

Ciao alle italiane, grazie per l'aiuto!
(=hi to the Italians and thanks for helping out). I was glad to see someone with a bit more authority step in and give their opinion!

Sjajana - welcome to the forum! Whereabouts in Italy do you live? As I said earlier, I have studied Italian so a reply in italiano is ok - but maybe rude to everyone else!
