Edge question from the Rose Bowl DVD

As they start NLOTH, Edge does that scratching sound, sliding up and down his guitar strings, and it sounded like UTEOTW to me, in fact the first time I watched the DVD I was surprised it wasn't.

So...are those sounds, in fact similar ?

It's a similar tone used on the guitar.

There's a lot of distortion in both songs, and a good amount of delay, too. Edge mutes his strings pretty often, but those two songs just happen to have similar tones. Not quite the same, as Edge said the distortion pedal on NLOTH is something he just got recently, but they're definitely similar.
