"With or Without You"

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you
Slight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you

Arguably the best lyric U2 (or Bono) have come up with. This just flows so perfectly with the song and the concept of the song.

Honorable mention goes to Beautiful Day, the last part of the song...
What you don't have, you don't need it now
What you don't know, you can feel it somehow

these lyrics make me shiver when I hear them...they are just so dark and powerful...

Love is clockworks and cold steel
Fingers too numb to feel
Squeeze the handle
Blow out the candle
Love is blindness

Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night around me
Oh, my love
Blindness

A little death without mourning
No call and no warning
Baby, a dangerous idea that almost makes sense

I like the end of COBL...three little lines that pack a lyrical punch. Could be about progress/faith...and even Jesus, at the end there.

Then again, I could be completely off the mark:)

The more you know the less you feel
Some pray for others steal
Blessings are not just for the ones who kneel... luckily

The lyrics fro Acrobat are damn good too

Here's a few...

Don't believe what you hear
Don't believe what you see

....
And you can dream
So dream out loud
You know that your time is coming 'round
So don't let the bastards grind you down

No, nothing makes sense
Nothing seems to fit
I know you'd hit out
If you only knew who to hit

....

And I must be an acrobat
To talk like this
And act like that
And you can dream
So dream out loud
And you can find
Your own way out

Another set of damn good lyrics by U2...though the majority are excellent anyway

walk on and beautiful day with honorable mentions.

You know he got the cure
You know he went astray
He used to stay awake
To drive the dreams he had away
He wanted to believe
In the hands of love

His head it felt heavy
As he cut across the land
A dog started crying
Like a broken hearted man
In the howling wind
In the howling wind

He went deeper into black
Deeper into white
Could see the stars shining
Like nails in the night
He felt the healing
Healing, healing
Healing hands of love
Like the stars shiny shiny
From above

Hand in the pocket
Finger on the steel
The pistol weighed heavy
His heart he could feel
Was beating, beating
Beating, beating oh my love
Oh my love, oh my love
Oh my love

My love

Saw the hands that build
Can also pull down

The most brilliant lyrics for. Not what's about, but the words and the rhymes are great. As a poem, Exit is a masterpiece (for me... )

^ Me too.
All of these have been great so far actually. (Well, maybe not Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeeaahh. )

A couple I like at the moment:

"Uncertainty could be a guiding light"

The whole of October.

The whole of Love Is Blindness.

Almost all of Walk On. (Not the 'packing the suitcase' part.)

I'd have to say some of the lyrics from Drowning Man
as so-ooo much emotion almost always drives me to tears when I listen to it ...

'Hold on, and hold on tightly' ...
'Hold on, and don't let go of my love' ...

'Take my hand' ...
'You know I'll be there' ...
'If you can' ...
'I'll cross the sky for your love' ...
'Give you what I hold dear' ...

:applaud: :applaud:

in this moment I'm loving:

" Oh, tell me,
Cherry you dance with me
Turn me around tonight
Up through the spiral staircase to the higher ground "

all God part II and the fly

"I’m hanging out to dry
With my old clothes
Finger still red with the prick of an old rose
Well the heart that hurts
Is a heart that beats
Can you hear the drummer slowing"

" Took a drive in the dirty rain
To a place where the wind calls your name
Under the trees, the river laughing at you and me.
Hallelujah! Heaven's white rose
The doors you open I just can't close.
Don't turn around, don't turn around again.
Don't turn around your gypsy heart.
Don't turn around, don't turn around again.
Don't turn around, and don't look back.
Come on now love, don't you look back. "

 My favourite lyrics on the new album.

So many great lyrics, but I'm going to throw "The Wanderer" into the ring. The entire lyric is awesome, but I love how dark the ending is. It's just so creepy.

"I went out walking with a bible and a gun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was sure I was the one.

Now Jesus, don't you wait up, Jesus I'll be home soon.
Yeah, I went out for the papers, told her I'd be back by noon.
Yeah, I left with nothing but the thought you'd be there too
Looking for you."

all so far have been top notch

I have always liked New Years Day for lyrics, though an obvious choice.

So we are told, this is the golden age... but gold is the reason for the wars we wage
/
Under a blood red sky...
/
newspapersays it's true...
/
though torn in 2, we can be 1.......

I......................
I will begin again....
I....... will be with you again......

there are tons of great lyrics.

also,I'd like to plug

A Sort Of Homecoming.

"This bomblast lightning waltz
no spoken words, just a screeeeeeaaamyeaaaaaaaoooh!"

Great song to sing out loud.
