Sorry but the lyrics:

'Over the counter with a shotgun
Pretty soon everybody got one'

well, after listening to it again recently does it mean:

A- Someone holding a shop-keeper up with a shotgun, and then pretty soon everybody got one.....(but in terms of using them to rob)

or B - Someone buying one, and then everybodies doing it. (for protection)

actually I dont tink my questions make sense.............

thanks!

perhaps because someone holding up a shopkeeper other people are getting shotguns to protect themselves

I have no idea

My own interpretation is that its not necessarily about guns per se, more that everything ends up a commodity in some way. Anything from something really small and insignficant to huge things, things with a massive impact on us from desire itself to guns (conveniently in the lyrics here).
I could be looking into things entirely too much, but the whole song seems to be about everything being larger than life, all neon signs and excess. Nothing is special, everyone has access to whatever you think is dear. We all feed off and thrive on this adrenalin and rush we get, but its garish and bright.

Maybe. lol. But thats what I think.
