Beautifull day friend-question

I just realized this morning that this 'friend' could be God...
I don't know if you've already solved that one, but what do you say?!

Well...I always thought of that line as meaning, you thought you'd found someone special (friend/relationship) and they left, or betrayed you.

That wouldn't really explain the line about grace though , and there are some other pretty obvious references in the song that would support your idea.

friendship and grace go on well together!
When you've got a REAL friend, you are in a sorta state of grace!

the idea of a friend "to take you out of this place" makes me think about the friends that come with you in a mad trip towards no one knows where!

But, why not, God could be a GREAT, REAL friend for everyone...
