Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde

Yeah, william burroughs appeared in the "last night on earth" video shortly before his death. also in it was rol dahl's, child author, daughter appears.

macphisto was inspired by a mixing of different charaterizations of the devil including goethe's mephistopheles, and c.s. lewis' screwtape, i would be willing to bet that dantes inferno played a part as well.

Should we include the TV commercial references from the Achtung Baby/Zooropa/POP era? Or how about artwork, like the Warhol-esque covers to POP and "Please"?

Not exactly literature, but great as pop art references, nonetheless.
