tread softly for you tread on my dreams" That is on Bono's gates and is part of a poem. I just wondered if anyone could tell me what the poem is called and who it is by. Does anyone know?

HE WISHES FOR THE CLOTHS OF HEAVEN

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enrought with gloden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Thread softly because you thread upon my dreams.

-William Butler Yeats(1865-1939)

Very nice quote, until you read the part where the narrator is "poor" and has only his "dreams"...

The irony of a passage from that poem, appearing on the gate of an eight-million dollar mansion.

I love Bono as much as anybody...but I just had to say it.

:sexywink:

I love that poem so much. Yeats is my favourite poet. As I now live in Dublin I should go check out Bono's gates some time! I should also read this part of the forum more.

that poem inspired one i wrote about someone i was very much in love with
i actually liked that poem too
*sigh*
what a wonderful writer Yeats was and lives on to be
