technical question about my dvd player and some u2 dvd boots

i have a toshiba sd-2700 dvd player which plays commercial dvds fine and one u2 dvd boot great, but it will not read my irving plaza or vegas dvds at all. those 2 dvds play fine in my computer dvd-rom but not in my stand alone dvd player. why not? what is a good dvd player that will play them and vcd's too?

any help would be appreciated!

It could be the encoding of the DVDs. Some are NTSC and some are PAL. I have an Apex player and it plays everything and anything (and it was only $70!).

I have a Samsung:It plays dvd-r and dvd-+ but it does not play vcds not official...I think that if you should buy a Philips or Sony , you should not have any troubles
