Most experimental and innovative U2 album? Easy - All That You Can't Leave Behind. The hooks and beats are off the chart. I hope U2 never does that again - it just freaked me out too much. It's best they stay with safe stuff like Unforgettable Fire, No Line on the Horizon, Pop, Zooropa and Original Soundtracks.
