We like Dad Rock.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Any genre that includes Led Zeppelin is one that I'm proud to be a fan of.

I have a theory about the complete lack of respect given to musicians who are actual musicians, ie. one's who play instruments: the disrespect they are given is a symptom of an anti-intellectual, neo-liberal society based on instant gratification. To be proficient at an instrument (or anything) is a sign that you think you're better than someone. Which isn't to denigrate those who use samplers (I make electronic music and play guitar), but most mainstream music relies on presets and everyone shares the same sounds, a trait that's indicative of laziness, a lack of imagination and talent, and a desire to conform above all else. Whatever one may say of "dad rock" artists, they are not trying to conform to anything which is the opposite of the assembly line pop acts that the poptimists attempt to validate by branding everything else as "dad rock."

After reading this article I felt I should qualify something here. I am a Asian women in her 40's who loves rock and after reading this article, I proudly extend my middle finger to these hipster writers who love to trash classic rock. It is utterly ridiculous to bring "race" into this discussion as I see people of all ages, races, sexual orientation etc at U2, Bruce Springsteen etc...shows. If they are filling 70,000 seat stadiums then it is silly to think that everyone in attendance is a white dude aged 30-60!

All this article does is reconfirm the well traveled road of younger generations carving out their own entertainment niche to offset that of their parents. This kind of overt ageism can kiss my ass!

I always thought Adult Contemporary was some kind of porn thing. Guess I was wrong.

Would Green Day be Dad Punk?

Would Eminem be Dad Rap?

Would Metallica be Dad Metal

Would Madonna be Mom Pop?

Would Michael Buble be Mom Crap?

I don't know. I think i just wasted 5 minutes of my life, masturbation would have been more gratifying than reading that article.

At least they put Foo Fighters in there.

Oh, im tired of the word "snarky"

Also...im tired of people telling me what to do or how i should think. Then again, im old enough to be a Dad myself. Fuck those cunts.

Yep... Zep, Bruce U2, The Kinks, The Who, The Clash, throw in Metallica and Rush for good measure. These are the bands I always return to, in their minds I am old fashioned out of touch, irrelevant and so on... And this opens my biggest pet peeve about U2 cuz these are the people they continually target. In fact, they all hated this albummore for the way it was delivered than the music itself.

In sweden the "genre" is called "Gubbrock" or old man's rock. It's the same snarky comment on classic rock acts like U2, Springsteen etc. Doesnt matter that the artists in questions were in theyre mid 20's when they wrote classics like Thunder Road, Pride (In the name of love) etc its still "grandpa" music.

Couldnt care less what music critics or columnists thinks though, i listen to "dad rock" and hip new hipster acts like Bon Iver and what have you.
