Damn, I wish they'd continue the re-issue campaign. Pop isn't my fave album, but I'd love to hear these early version of songs.

Great find!

I suspect something might come out on the 20th anniversary of the album in 2017. Maybe after the I&E tour, they'll get around to releasing more stuff or it or (gasp) finally reworking a few more things on it.

Definitely curious to hear more of the demos after that Mofo clip in particular. I'm more than happy with the final product, but it still sounds intriguing to me. Adam sounds pretty prominent on the video too, imo.

They would need to re-issue Rattle & Hum and Zooropa properly, first!

I remember seeing parts of this when it came out but not all of it. Very cool footage.

GOD DAMN IT!!! I love POP. It's in my top 3 U2 albums. Hearing just those clips, ugh. It just reaffirms what an amazing time that was. What fucking BALLS on those songs, and on those guys for crying out loud.

People around these forums often scoff at my dissing ATYCLB, but hearing these little clips just shows the stark difference between those two time periods. And I am unapologetic about being in the POP camp.

\thanks so much for the video

I listened to the POP Mart Tour warm up audio on youtube and found it interesting they practiced a different version of With Or Without You that sounded kind of cool, but ultimately glad they didn't go with that version.

Popmart soundchecks and rehearsals are among my favourite recordings. They need to bring POP back to life!

Link?

Are you sure about the 1:45 spot? That just sounds like a slow ebttrt solo.

Yeah that's definitely a real thing solo.

Interesting to see how the POP songs sounds evolved from Vegas to a month later. The beginning of Mofo was completely changed, went from the drum beat to machine. Also, I liked the 70's porn style guitar riff in Gone that disappeared somewhere after Vegas.

The songs seemed more raw earlier on, then more polished electronic sounds took over.

Yeah it starts at the hour and 49 mark... It's a little weird for me, it's obvious why it didn't work.

The vocal take by Bono sounds very exciting, even if it is imperfect. They also did a version with a beat at the beginning at Las Vegas opening night, it worked pretty well, but then they played it safe for the rest of the tour :(

JESUS! Just seen this. Coolest period of any band EVER!
I, like many others, wondered what the origin of this footage/images was - mystery solved.

Wonder if this guy (Richie Smyth) has still got access to these early mixes? I'd KILL to hear them

Possibly my favourite aspect of the band is their ability to change their songs live and give them a new dimension with every tour (something which was sorely missing on 360 tour). I always suspected that something was at least tried with WOWY on Popmart, since Bullet and Streets got their Popmart reinventions. I wish they gave this version of With or Without You a chance. Not going with it contributed to the slow death of a live song that was one of their greatest in the 1987-1993 period.

The Eugene 1997 version of the song is an unusual one that has vague traces of this experiment though.

Wow, that version of WOWY is great! I wish they'd used that version. The mesh of Edge and the synths is beautiful, and the resequenced intro sounds great. It really deserved to be played, but I can understand why they shelved it. Being unprepared for a highly publicicized tour opener would make one skittish about presenting a rearranged version of their biggest hit. Too bad though. It sounded great. Discotheque is really cool too in that bootleg. It's nice to hear the band just work the riff. I could listen to that for 10 minutes.
