Let the speculation begin:

Record Store Day put up the list of records this year:

U2
AGE OF INNOCENCE DELUXE

Format: 2 x 12" Vinyl
White, dye-cut gatefold center hole vinyl sleeve on front and back covers. Double black vinyl. Numbered.

WHAT IS THIS?

Could this be the 'live' album that U2.com is giving away to it's subscribers?

Hrm, I bet it is. An understandable but odd choice to release to the public and to also entice people to subscribe to the website. The only thing, however, is the live show is being released on 10" vinyl.

That's titled "Another Time, Another Place", so this sounds like something different. Plus it wouldn't make much sense for them to sell the subscriber gift, it would get folks up in arms.

Something to do with the material on Songs of Innocence most likely based on the title, possibly those crappy boring acoustic promo versions like Nick mentioned.

Yeah, for a second I thought it might be, but as you mention the live album does have a title, and also it is 10" vinyl.

Interesting.

Is this a worldwide record store day? Was it the same time last year that we had the ordinary love vinyl?

It is worldwide, but I think Europe gets a slightly different selection as the US gets certain titles specifically for the US and vice versa. The Ordinary Love release was part of the smaller black Friday Record Store Day that is held in November following American Thanksgiving.

Maybe it's remixes of songs of innocence on one vinyl :hmm:

Maybe a song on songs of experience is going be on there too:drool::hyper:

Hopefully it'll be the album on disc one and Invisible, Lucifer's Hands, the Crystal Ballroom, and other real outtakes on disc two. The SOI sessions, if you will.

Surprised (not really) that U2 haven't said anything about it since it has now been announced

The first ever 'Now That's What I Call Music!' compilation, 'Now 1', will also be released on vinyl while U2 and The White Stripes will release their albums 'Songs Of Innocence' and 'Get Behind Me Satan' respectively.

Hrm, well, if they re-release Songs.. the only difference from the original release is that it is on black vinyl. I am guessing it is a special edition.

It's funny - US RSD page calls it Age of Innocence (Deluxe Edition) and has 2x12"
UK RSD calls it Songs of Innocence and has 2x10"

Could they both be part wrong? It sounds like they have branded the Another Time, Another Place recording as Age of Innocence for this release, and the 2x10" thing would match up as well.

Curious

The NME article seems to be made purely from reading the list, rather than any additional info they may have, so saying they are releasing SOI may not be the full story

U2 is listed as one of the contributing artists for the upcoming Record Store Day, which is happening on April 18, 2015. But there's some uncertainty over what exactly U2 is releasing that day.

The official RDS website has a page for U2's release that lists it with the title Age Of Innocence Deluxe. It's described as a numbered, double black vinyl, and the wording for the album sleeve -- "white, dye-cut gatefold center hole vinyl sleeve on front and back covers" -- sounds very similar to the limited vinyl release of Songs Of Innocence that happened last fall to make the album Grammy-eligible. It's possible that this Record Store Day release is the same item and the title has been mislabeled as Age Of Innocence; it's also possible that it's something else. (The official retail version of SOI is on white vinyl.) We have an email in to the band's PR team for clarification and will update this post when we hear more.

Whatever it is, a separate PDF list of all upcoming RSD releases indicates that 6,000 copies will be available. The Record Store Day website has a list of participating stores, but you should also call your favorite store(s) as the day approaches to see if they're participating.

(Thx to Tony L. for the tip.)

UPDATE: Erik B. points us to the Dutch Record Store Day website, which says this is a vinyl version of Songs Of Innocence, not a new release called "Age Of Innocence." It includes a track list that mirrors what was included on the Deluxe version of SOI that was released last October.

LP 1: Songs Of Innocence with 10 tracks.

LP2 SIDE C:

Lucifer's Hands
The Crystal Ballroom
The Troubles (Alternative Version)
Sleep Like A Baby Tonight (Alternative Perspective Mix by Tchad Blake)
Invisible
LP 2 SIDE D:

Acoustic Sessions

Every Breaking Wave
California (There Is No End To Love)
Raised by Wolves
Cedarwood Road
Song For Someone
The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone) Busker Version

Interesting that it's 10 tracks - I wonder which one they've left off?
