U Talkin' U2 To Me podcast by Adam Scott & Scott Aukerman

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Heh, Adam Scott probably reads this thread given that he admits he reads posts on sites (including @U2)

Hey, Adam. My girlfriend has also met Steve Wozniak. But she didn't try to suck his dick.

Dear lord, the part where they ask U2 if they can get the new album early and then how it leads flawlessly into like the eighth episode of I Love Films ("Captain Phillips")...god that was funny.

A+ Team!

maybe they'll cancel the show now that U2 aren't releasing anything at all.

Has anybody listened to this week's edition all about JT?

They actually starting talking about the album only like 15 or 16 minutes in this time instead of 45. But until Harris Wittels leaves, they're talking about U2 in more general terms, then he leaves and it becomes JT-specific. Wittels doesn't appear to be a U2 fan, thinks they are corny and that their music is often stuck in its time. The Scotts didn't agree.

This was probably the best of these so far. Though I couldn't disagree more with them that Exit is the only clunker on JT. Exit is breath-taking, imo. On the other hand, glad they acknowledged JT's great b-sides(thought I disagree with their contention that U2 haven't been a great b-sides band outside of JT and Pop).

Also pleasantly surprised to hear they are at least somewhat sympathetic to Pop.

Yeah I was a little perturbed at Adam's dismissal of Exit (!) as the song from The Joshua Tree that doesn't hold up, but I've found myself liking their takes more often than not (except for them liking the Fortunate Son cover. burn that sucker). Harris was as good as I'd hoped after hearing a sneak peak during the Unforgettable Fire episode, being quasi-open to the band but still being prickly and adversarial.

The first half of this week's Rattle and Hum episode is Adam talking about seeing U2 at a charity event and at this year's Golden Globe awards, and director Lance Bangs (husband of Corin Tucker) comes by for the second half and shares his tangential professional work with the band. Pretty solid entry, and how heavily they're buying into the fall part of the "rise, fall, rise" arc means we're probably going to get a rave Achtung Baby episode. I really do want to hear that Pop episode, because the effort put in by the Scotts so far (and the b-sides comments) suggests it's going to be a bit deeper than "dance music and irony" as a weird detour to the Third Masterpiece ATYLCB.

Well, he said he just casually reads that sort of stuff, particularly the @U2 updates...but I imagine he's opened this thread if he's visited Interference at all recently.

I think Exit is the worst song on Joshua Tree, but listening to it is like getting the chance to fuck the world's eleventh hottest porn star. You don't turn that shit down.

Exit is one of the best songs on The Joshua Tree. It's even better live. Such a shame it wasn't played after Lovetown (where it was played only once so even that doesn't count).

WARNING: The episode titled "Achtung Baby" contains no actual content regarding AB.

Yes, one hour and 15 minutes and they don't even get to it.

In general some odd choices - they love War top to bottom and don't balk at some of the side two clunkers. Adam Scott loves EPAA from UF. And no love for Exit?

Pretty funny hearing their reaction to THTBA. One second in, groans.

Sounds like Adam is going to be a big HTDAAB apologist. Should be interesting.

Were you dropped on the head as a child?

:D Agreed. Exit, for me, is in a whole other realm to the great songs on JT. WOWY, Streets, ISHFWILF - terrific songs. Exit is OTHER. It's dark cinema, it's a bad dream, it's a shadow passing across a short story; it has more atmosphere and drama than any other U2 song before or since. I listen to it now, 27 years on, and STILL when the first explosion in the song happens I feel something leaping from me, hard to describe but it's like a shiver I'm sending out there.

I listened to the first three episodes. It was okay, but they barely talk about U2! I disagree about there not being weak songs on War, and I strongly disagree about The song October.

Listened to the Rattle & Hum episode & the 2nd AB episode. To me those were the 2 best episodes of the podcast so far. Especially the AB episode.

Though I don't really think of AB sounding dated though.

I sort of wish it was a bit more... Serious? Perhaps that isn't quite the right word. I certainly don't want a totally reverential/biased thing... But I sort of feel like it's about them. Not the music? I feel like there's an opportunity to do a really great podcast on the U2 back catalogue.... But this ain't it for me. Actually... On that note. Anybody in the east of England want to do one with me? Go on..... You know it makes sense!

so Bono mentioned Songs of Experience as something they'll try to get out "next year."

that means 2018 in Bono time.

Did they talk about the songs or progress? Just hope to have it out by next year?

Caught most of the interview. Very interesting that a stay verse was in consideration for ultraviolet I believe? Did the guys mention what new songs were played or what they sounded like?

Edge drew comparisons between SOE and Zooropa (not in terms of sound, just as to timing of release)....all evidence that this baby is coming out next year while still on tour.

Bono joked that he is not reliable in predicting release dates, but good sign that Edge, the more cautious one, opened up a bit about it.

Such a great podcast, and U2 couldn't have picked two better guys to interview them. It's really cool to just hear U2 being people, and there's a lot of really cool info in there.
U2 are on a fucking roll these days - they're really treating their fans well. Go U2!
