Since there is such a large amount of songs to choose from I would like for you to throw some track list ideas my way to turn a non-believer into a fan. Im not going to give him just one album because that doesnt sum them up and I would highly doubt he would listen to every album. This person only has a clue of whats been on recently on the radio and their hits. Help me out cus this guy just joined my band and has the "i cant stand bono so everything U2 has ever been put out is shit" attitude. I have songs that are definitely going on but i need some help to make a flowing track list.

^ Agreed.

I'm trying to remember what I put on the first U2 CD I gave to my friend (who is now a huge fan and going with me to Chicago). I seem to remember I put some more obscure songs on there... EBTTRT Perfecto Mix, Big Girls Are Best, Native Son, Lemon, Stories For Boys...

Alrighty, let's give it a try:

01 - Lady With the Spinning Head (Extended Dance Mix) 6:06
02 - Elevation 3:46
03 - Desire 2:59
04 - Hawkmoon 269 6:22
05 - Electrical Storm (William Orbit Mix) 4:39
06 - One Step Closer 3:51
07 - Stay (Faraway, So Close!) 4:57
08 - No Line on the Horizon 4:14
09 - Where the Streets Have No Name 5:37
10 - Bad 6:09
11 - The First Time 3:46
12 - Levitate 5:14
13 - Zooropa 6:30
14 - Even Better Than the Real Thing 3:41
15 - Drowning Man 4:15
16 - With or Without You 4:55
17 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me 4:44

Running time: 77:45, if I did the math right.
And this should work. No POP here, it's an acquired taste.

Beautiful Day
Even Better Than the Real Thing
Desire
Pride (In the Name of Love)
Luminous Times (Hold on to Love)
With or Without You
Bullet the Blue Sky (from Rattle & Hum)
Sunday Bloody Sunday (from Under a Blood Red Sky)
Bad (from Wide Awake in America)
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Where the Streets Have No Name
Zooropa
Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own
Elevation
Dirty Days
No Line on the Horizon 2
One

03 - Bullet the Blue Sky
04 - Stay
05 - UTEOTW
06 - October
07 - The Unforgettable Fire
08 - Kite

12 - Electrical Storm
13 - Out of Control
14 - Miracle Drug
15 - Drowning Man
16 - Acrobat
17 - If You Wear That Velvet Dress
18 - Where the Streets Have No Name

This list is designed to combine recognisable songs with hidden gems. The recognisable songs are probably the most palatable for non-fans, and the hidden gems are ones that I have used to get friends into U2. I think the flow of this cd is good too, because it showcases their range and many many different styles through the years.

1. FEZ-Being Born
2. Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
3. Mofo
4. Zoo Station
5. Moment of Surrender
6. Running to Stand Still (Zoo TV version)
7. City of Blinding Lights
8. With or Without You
9. Bad (Rattle and Hum film version)
10. Zooropa
11. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
12. Sunday Bloody Sunday (Rattle and Hum film version)
13. Out of Control
14. Kite
15. Where the Streets Have No Name
16. One
17.Walk On
18. All I Want Is You

Just give him Pop. If he doesn't like it, he doesn't deserve to be a U2 fan.

:applaud:

1. A Sort of Homecoming
2. Gloria
3. New Year's Day
4. Tomorrow
5. Drowning Man
6. The Unforgettable Fire
7. Fez-Being Born
8. In God's Country
9. Magnificent
10. Gone
11. Until the End of the World
12. Breathe
13. Please
14. Exit
15. Even Better Than the Real Thing
16. Heartland
17. Kite
18. City of Blinding Lights
19. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
20. Out of Control

"Classics" plus unknowns.

Probably has a good mix of everything; alot of overlooked songs and alot of the songs transition very well. At least one song from every studio album (excluding Passengers [don't scare them yet]). Got a ton of different U2 styles as well.

01. City Of Blinding Lights
02. No Line On The Horizon
03. Discothèque
04. Magnificent
05. Mofo
06. The Fly
07. Lady With The Spinning Head (UV1)
08. Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
09. Walk On
10. The Unforgettable Fire
11. Red Hill Mining Town
12. Trip Through Your Wires
13. Angel Of Harlem
14. I Will Follow
15. Drowning Man
16. Tomorrow
17. All I Want Is You

... Or better yet, the three disc anthology:

Disc 1
1. United Colours
2. Discotheque
3. Zooropa
4. Slug
5. Do You Feel Loved
6. Babyface
7. Your Blue Room
8. Mofo
9. Numb
10. Always Forever Now
11. If God Will Send His Angels
12. Lemon

Disc 2
1. A Different Kind Of Blue
2. Staring At The Sun
3. Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
4. Beach Sequence
5. Last Night On Earth
6. Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car
7. Miss Sarajevo
8. Gone
9. Some Days Are Better Than Others
10. Ito Okashi
11. Miami
12. The First Time
13. One Minute Warning
14. The Playboy Mansion

Disc 3
1. Dirty Day
2. Corpse (These Chains Are Way Too Long)
3. If You Wear That Velvet Dress
4. The Wanderer
5. Elvis Ate America
6. Please
7. Plot 180
8. Wake Up Dead Man
10. Theme From The Swan
11. Lets Go Native

Also, throw an a song from Standards by The Alarm (preferably Sixty-Eight Guns) after something from War. See if they question you if its the same artist.

Make sure One Tree Hill, The Unforgettable Fire and Stay are on it, if they don't like any of those 3 U2 songs then nothing will convert them!

Give him a live gig or something, that's the best way of converting people from their anti-Bono prejudices....like Popmart Mexico or something.

This is a contender for the final CD:

Acrobat
Exit (Rattle and Hum)
The Unforgettable Fire
Drowning Man
The Fly
Red Hill Mining Town
No Line On The Horizon
With A Shout (October Bonus CD)
Stay
Two Hearts Beat As One
Promenade
Ultraviolet
ASOH (Wide Awake)
Do You Feel Loved
Bad (Rattle and Hum)
Moment of Surrender
40

Can't say I have enough patience to try and make a list of my own, but if your friend is one of those "casual" music listeners (i.e. likes pop music), I think you should try and emphasize the big hitters. I know this goes contrary to our hardcore U2 philosophy, but, for me it first took an appreciation of the band before I could dive into the more obscure songs. Just my two cents

I've tried this before, it's virtually impossible. You have to let the U2 fans come to you

It depends on what music he likes. Choose the U2 songs which most speak to him.

I have a friend who likes Kasabian, so the "best-of" was heavy with Pop and remixes.

 I'm currently working on this too, for my boss. He's going to a show on the tour and wants me to make him a CD to catch him up, he hasn't listened to anything since JT.

I can't decide if I should use a playlist like one you guys have made here, or make something that follows the setlist. Or I could just give him a copy of Slane.

^ A copy of Slane

That´s what I gave to a friend of mine some years ago as a birthday present. He wasn´t a U2 fan at all but he had already listened to With or Without You:D

He has bought all U2´s stuff since then - felt in love with U2 when I took him to watch U23D and now we are both waiting for U2 360 Tour in our country in a very damn excited way. :hyper:

I just made one inspired by this thread. Probably leans a bit too heavily to the side of lesser known hits but I figured they didn't want to hear Beautiful Day or Vertigo yet again.

1. City of Blinding Lights
2. The Unforgettable Fire
3. The Fly
4. Do You Feel Loved
5. Electrical Storm
6. With or Without You
7. Luminous Times (Hold on to Love)
8. Mothers of the Disappeared
9. Into the Heart
10. Tomorrow
11. Drowning Man
12. Please
13. Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
14. Walk On
15. Where the Streets Have No Name
16. All I Want is You

but I would probably agree with previous posters that lending a copy of Slane would be the best way to convert
