So I've listened to nothing but U2 for a month.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Move one step at a time... now listen to only stuff that U2, Brian Eno, or Danny Lanois has created or been involved in the creation of.

I highly recommend Heroes by Bowie if you don't already have it, and Brian was heavily involved in its creation.

As much as I love this band, I cannot listen 'nothing but' for a month. I've been taking in some other stuff to prevent me from going insane.

And a month of abstaining prior to Tour is good for the head.

No. you don't. I think you are quite normal. They'll have to pry this one out of my cold dead hands.

I think it's not normal, nor is it healthy, to listen to one thing exclusively for days, weeks, or months on end, whether it be U2 or any other musical act. It's normal to go through phases where you'll listen to a particular artist a lot, but you need to mix it up while doing it, in my opinion.

I've listened to mostly NLOTH the last couple weeks and have decided it's a phenomenal record. However, I think it's important to maintain perspective by mixing it in with other current good music. If you don't own these, you should immediately download them and mix them in...

• Myriad Harbour, New Pornographers
• Take Me to the Riot, Stars
• Geraldine, Glasvegas
• The Warning, Boy from School, Playboy, Hot Chip
• Young Folks, Peter Bjorn
• Aly Walk with Me, Raveonettes
• Girls in the their Summer Clothes, Springsteen
• Electric Feel, Time to Pretend, MGMT
• The Step and the Walk, The Duke Spirit
• Sex on Fire, Kings of Leon
• Kim and Jessie, M83
• Touch Me I'm going to Scream, My Morning Jacket
• Circadia Rhythm, Son Volt
• Dancing Choose, TV on the Radio
• Heart Songs, Weezer
• My Mistakes Were Made for You, The Last Shadow Puppets
• Mykonos, Fleet Foxes
• Hljómalind, Sigur Ros
• Cherry Bomb, Spoon
• Oxford Comma, Vampire Weekend
• 100,000 Fireflies, the Magnetic Fields

And a special tribute to a 50 year old song that I can't stop playing...

• The End of the World, Skeeter Davis

Which song from the 'Heroes' album is the best?

Why not recommend albums? Does no one listen to albums anymore?

Album? What's that? Isn't that when an artist puts all their greatest hits on one CD? If so, then yeah, albums are great.

Um Pop is the best album ever made by anyone

FACT

No seriously, it's the album that got me into U2, it will always be my favourite. I mean, I've been listening to it since I was 9.

I'm going to respectfully disagree here. I don't think what music you listens to has any bearing on your health  well, besides affecting your mood, in which case all that matters is the music makes you happy

it may not be "normal" but I don't see how that matters?? It's just music.

I GO A STEP ABOVE THAT...I LISTEN TO RECORDS

You remember those right? Apparently it's something the 80's folk used BEFORE THE INTERNETZ!

Can you belive that?!?!?!

I was thinking about it, apparently no one buys albums anymore either, but just download singles etc. I still buy and collect albums, but some artists only have one song I like....others have 3 or 5 albums I like.

Well, what I meant by "healthy" is to take everything in moderation, as they say. That's what I try to do, no matter how much I may love something.

I'm thinking of buying a record player. Is the difference in sound quality that great from a CD?

I've got a crap one from the early 80'...so I'm not sure...

But one thing I am certain about...

Bad from Wide Awake In America on Vinyl is AMAZING!

shh... that's a can of worms you really do not want to open. Suffice it to say... some people prefer CDs, some people prefer LPs... it depends on your taste, I guess.

Bad from WWIA would sound amazing on a twenty-year-old cassette tape that I had microwaved for an hour.

I think I might have that particular tape! :D

My old U2 tapes (and lps, when I still had them) really got put through the grinder. Makes for some really...um...interesting sounds when I drag them out and give them a play for old times' sake.

I haven't quiet gone to those levels but if you look at my three month chart on last.fm

1 U2 405
2 The Dresden Dolls 252 (Doesn't count, because I accidently deleted a bunch of tracks so had to rescrobble)
3 Amy Winehouse 129
4 Morrissey 126
5 Girl Talk 122
6 Sigur Rós 105
7 The Flaming Lips 104
8 Simon & Garfunkel 95
9 Leonard Cohen 92
10 Ray Charles 88

U2 kind of are breaking away
