Disclaimer: I've never liked One (or Please) as much as most U2 fans. Miami would be higher as an instrumental. Dirty Day would be higher if it sounded like the live version from the Sydney video (same with Stay and Lemon for that matter). The guitars on the second half of If You Wear That Velvet Dress are some of the most gorgeous guitars on any U2 recording.

I feel that the single version of Please is so much better than the album version.

Dirty Day is growing on me as we speak, so my list is subject to change.

Last Night On Earth, I adore the intro, but don't really rate the actual song. But the intro is that damn good that it boosts the whole thing up for me. Weird.

Says a lot about the song quality that I love at least the first 25 songs on the list and still enjoy the rest. I dont really listen to Passengers although I would rank MS and YBR quite high on the list (around 15-20 and 8-10 respectively)

Wow. I just listened to Pop again today and that album never ceases to amaze me (from beginning to end). I almost want to raise the ranks of a few of the songs, but I'm just gonna leave my original rankings alone. It's too hard to rank 90's U2 songs. I love them all!

Exactly. I keep wanting to change the order. I was listening to UTEOTW today, heard the guitar solo, and now I want to raise its rank. But I'm just gonna leave it. My post is just a very rough estimate of my opinions. It's interesting to see that some of my favorites are being ranked a lot lower by almost everyone else. I always seem to love the least popular tracks on albums, so I guess I'm not surprised.

The Wanderer (I don't like it when U2 sample someone else's voice)

There are certain elements that make me gravitate to U2 and make U2.....U2. They don't need to have all of these things in a song to make me like them but if all of them are in it and done right, it's usually an epic/ perfect song(think Streets, Pride, SBS, Beautiful Day, etc..)

Those elements from least to most important(although they all are important)


5-The build of the song (how they add in sounds as the song grows)
4-The chorus (one that makes you involuntary shout it out)
3-The lyrics and meaning of their songs (love, overcoming obstacles , etc...)
2-Edges chiming/soaring/monster guitar riffs
1-Bono's voice : other artists can copy #s 5-2 but they can't copy this. His voice IS U2 and when he has a great delivery (SHFWILF or EBTTRT) it enhances the song. When he is off...the song suffers (Crazy Tonight voice cracks or Cedars of Lebanon where he sounds like old man spoken word Bono)

I don't like the Wanderer at all because in addition to missing most of the above elements, the song is missing the thing I love most about U2...Bono.
