PJ's "analog" membership (i.e. one where you get the physical Christmas single (6 months late) and a physical copy of their Deep fanzine) is $40 for people in the US, $50 for those outside of the US. U2.com does not make a distinction between US and non-US people, only for new subscribers and renewing subscribers.

The PJ site is out of date if they still mention the subscription cost being $25. I guess they aren't that quick to update their info...
If you go to their online store (the Goods section on the website) you'll see the actual prices for the memberships:
https://secure.pearljam.com/store/pr...pring?sku=9008 (for the Analog Membership for non-US people)
https://secure.pearljam.com/store/pr...pring?sku=9011 (for the Digital Membership)

ha, i saw that article when someone i follow (no one on interference and i'm not sure if they're even a u2 fan) tweeted a link to the article. it'll be interesting to see if other sites pick the story up too or what. if it gains enough press they might at least change things a little just to avoid bad press.

We see that some fans are unhappy with the service at U2.com, we take the point.

Some issues raised hit hard, particularly about 'Duals' because a lot of work went into it. And it's fair to say that if you've been following the band continually since the very early days, you might have collected these tracks, but for everyone else, there's some great music here and we're glad to hear you're looking forward to receiving the CD.

Also, we'd like to clarify that subscribers are always first in line for tickets and our allocation is reserved to ensure we get the widest choice in a venue. We are sometimes beaten to the draw with news stories - that's because we have no choice but to only run confirmed information. We are the official word.

If we get a tour date or set list track wrong or mislabel a lithograph - genuine mistakes - we'll check and correct it.

But it's not satisfactory that U2 fans feel aggrieved. So we're going to investigate all of your concerns, including customer service.

We are always looking to improve the U2.com experience and the service we offer to subscribers as our recent live webcast from Cape Town shows. Thanks for your great response to that and thanks for raising these issues.

The U2.com Team

Really?

And the "well, not everyone has those songs," while correct, is irritating, because who are most of the folks shelling out for the paid membership?

Fans who already have 33 versions of those songs, that's who.

But it's good to see any response, when they could easily have just rolled their eyes and carried on.

Well, just goes to show that enough people felt the need to voice their concerns for u2.com to take notice!

Eh, I still see nothing wrong with piping up to say "You can do better than this."
That's what I did.

I've not had any issues with the website, despite several moves. Some items did take a bit longer to arrive. And once, I wasn't sure if I'd get tickets in time for my trip to Ireland. But in reality, all worked out perfectly.

When the pre-sale code gave me crappy seats for a Chicago show, I was whisked away to a fantastic seat with a great view. And while I don't always get what I hope (like GA tickets to past shows), I have had good service.

I'm sorry that others have had poor service and I understand the frustrations. But some of the points seem a bit too specific. And asking for unreleased material may be a bit much. U2 controls their work very closely. As much as they may want to release some tracks, they may feel the quality just doesn't represent them.
My issue with the site is the value of subscribing does not out weigh the cost of membership.

I once thought of suing Radiohead for the time I spent trying failing to get into them.

Instead, I got sober.

My main complaint is that U2.com is really inconsistent. Sometimes they have some really great stuff for subscribers, and then we'll have a long dry spell with hardly anything. At times like that I feel like my money is being wasted.

I miss the band-made videos that we were getting around NLOTH's release; even though some of them seemed pointless, it was still cool to get something from the band (and Edge isn't even tweeting anymore, not that it's U2.com's fault). Right now I feel like the band is totally detached from the fans and from U2.com.

The live stream from Cape Town was excellent and U2.com should be doing that more often; if not for every show, then at least every few shows. And it would be nice to give subscribers a discount on tickets, at least 10%; that would be a pretty good incentive to sign up.

I don't have a problem with Duals because I don't have a lot of those songs and I don't really expect a lot from a fan club release.

Finally, if they don't want to change anything, then they should drop the yearly fee to $20-$25 or less.

that's really the best way to do it. instead of a petition, everyone band together and boycott when your renewal comes up.
