I'm kind of behind in my U2 news, so this might have been answered already. But are there any current plans to remaster any of U2's other albums (Rattle and Hum, Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop, etc?)

I don't think the last two really need it, but I'd love to see a remastered and deluxe edition of Rattle and Hum, Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and Pop.

I've read somewhere about AB being remastered and released this year....

Wasn't there a rumour back in November or so that TUF, WWIA, and AB were being rereleased this year, with TUF and AB in a JT-like format?

An Achtung Baby remaster would be wonderful. :hyper: And like the other posters, I think I heard that earlier in 2008, too.

I've heard rumblings about TUF. I'd take a guess that WAIA would be a part of the bonus disc of that.

Yep, the rumour was something like what pfan said, TUF + WAIA in a set, and then AB.

They should just announce that NLOTH is being remastered, too, before it is fully mastered the first time.

Also, lol. I can see it already:

NO LINE ON THE HORIZON (U2)

Audio CD $13.98

Vinyl (2 LP) $17.98

Digi-pack version (CD/Poster/Film Download) $35.98

Magazine version (CD/Magazine/Film Download) $49.98

Box Set version (CD/Poster/Book/DVD) $95.98

Remastered Deluxe version (2CD/Poster/Book/DVD) $210.55

An TUF and AB remaster this year would be great. :) Although, are they skipping Rattle and Hum? I hope not, I love that album, and it would be great as a deluxe package.

Just a guess...

Remasters
The Unforgettable Fire - 2010 (25th anniversary)
Achtung Baby - 2011 (20th anniversary)
Zooropa - 2013

The Unforgettable Fire came out in 1984 so this year would be the 25th anniversary. I don't really think anniversaries matter with these anymore though as 2008 was the 28th anniversary of Boy and 27th for October. I think the whole anniversary idea was just for The Joshua Tree and also a way to kick off the whole remastering thing.

Meh, I only care about unreleased songs that come with the bonus disc, so not a big deal when they will be released to me. I'll buy them anyway to add to my collection. :|

i.e. with concert DVD of unavailable footage? That would be purely awesome! I especially can't wait for the AB one! Finally we'll have something more genuinely Zoo TV (as opposed to Zoomerang) than the Sydney concert.

I know exactly what you mean. I always feel like why didn't they just release it in DDD or something so they didn't have to go through all this?

Well, Paul McGuiness said they'd all be released in a couple of years, so we shouldn't have to wait that long.

Funny avatar.

I want a giant book of blown up photos from the AB liner notes, so I can see clearly what's going on. I LOVE those liner notes.

Yup. I thought I was the only person who remembered him saying that. And maybe there aren't many folks besides you and me who do, since I've seen so many predictions in various threads of release dates that are years into the future.

when the remaster Achtung Baby I hope they Finish "Heaven and Hell" like they did with Wave of Sorrow for the Joshua Tree remaster.

Heaven and Hell has the potential to be top notch song. Just needs a little work and cut the running time abit.

The only reason I think ATYCLB and How To Dismantle need remastering is so we get a bonus disc of bsides/remixes. They sound fine as they are.

Yeah, as critical as I am of U2, it's because I want it to be the best and be proud of the band the way I used to. I'm very compulsive about going to the source. I think it was a radio interview or something, right? He also said the outrage over being shut down by the police for the "Where the Streets Have No Name" video was all pretense and that was U2's plan all along, I think. He had to write a letter to the police chief's daughter explaining that everything was fine because she was no longer talking to her father. I was quite shocked.

On the whole reissue thing, Robert Smith of The Cure planned to rerelease his entire catalogue with bonus stuff in a year or something. That was back in 2002! On average he rereleases 3 albums every 2-3 years:
Late 2004: Three Imaginary Boys
Spring 2005: Seventeen Seconds; Faith; Pornography
Summer 2006: The Top; Head on the Door; Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
Next year we expect Disintegration; Wish; and Mixed Up

Actually that's not too bad a release schedule, since we actually get rare stuff and it's easier to appreciate. However, we don't get bonus DVDs since The Cure aren't as marketable. However, when they do come out, the DVDs are much more reasonably priced. Robert even refused to take any royalties to reduce the price of the last DVD.

Remixes? Bite your tongue! I guess if you want the Jacknife Lee remix of Vertigo and stuff, suit yourself. :)

I really do hope Achtung Baby and Zooropa get remastered.

They need it bad, especially AB, as it sounds like it was recorded in a tin can.
