Do you usually skip Numb ??!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Ironic, Idealist, Happy go lucky, Funny, Serious, Out there, looking at the inside from the outside...

all aspects of U2 at their best.

and it builds up to a great cresendo.

but sounds nothing like any of the best u2 songs, the songs that make them great.

i like that they tried something different, but don't see how anyone could say its the aspects that make them great. what 'great' u2 songs are 'happy go lucky' ?

i would say its u2 at its worst (just listen to it live, and that pretty much confirms its awfulness), but thats just my opinion.

3. Some Days...

You're awesome

1. Zooropa
2. Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
3. Lemon
4. Some Days are Better Than Others
5. Numb
6. Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car
7. The First Time
8. Babyface
9. The Wanderer
10. Dirty Day

Really a fantastic album. Looking at the tracklist, there's only probably three songs there that are really sensational, but it works as an album and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Some Days always picks me up, it's fun, light-hearted and if you want a laugh replace 'days' with 'dicks'. I love Babyface, I think it's a good song :madspit: and yes, that is Dirty Day at the bottom, which, whilst still good, is a lazy attempt at the rock song. Terrible bridge, the drums annoy me because they sound so lifeless, the only redeeming thing is that it realised it's full potential live.

Oh man! How can you people skip Babyface?? It's so calming to listen to!

Turning around and around with the sound
And colour under my control, go
Round and around, going down
Dressed up like a lovely day

 Bono's vocal delivery is so beautiful in this song!

   The vocal delivery's why I love it.

Babyface > (ATYCLB+HTDAAB)

See that line? Waaaaaay back there?

I can't relate to this thread, because I literally enjoy every song on this album. The Wanderer is borderline, but the live version proves that it's a very good song.

Yeah, it's my #1 favorite, but I can't fool myself into thinking it's their most consistent, fully-realized record. That's got to be Joshua Tree.

I think The Wanderer is one of the most sharply-written songs on Zooropa. I just think the synthesizers sound fucking terrible.

The Wanderer is a brilliant song that doesn't get enough respect.

It is the true Zooropa song.

From the year 3075.

That mix betrays the artistic trajectory of their own career. Any album is going to be a reflection of where the band was at the time, what their philosophies were at the time, the kind of music they were into at the time, their mental states at the time, etc. "Numb" is a document of the most adventurous period of U2's career. By dubbing those full-voiced vocals on it, U2 took that documentation away, because with those new vocals, the song no longer documents where U2 were in 1993, it documents where they were in 2002.

Agree to disagree.

They're not new vocals. Those vocals are in the original version, they're just way way down in the mix, buried. You have to have some good headphones on or else crank a stereo to hear them. So they're there. Edge, Bono's falsetto, Larry, and a really low sub-mumble that could also be Edge.

I personally don't care about the song as a time capsule, I just want a good song. That's why I like the Best Of version more.

I'm afraid your logic is much too practical and natural for most people on this forum...

(Have to agree with you -- I think the 2002 "Discotheque" is better than the original, and also the 1998 "Sweetest Thing".)

I think the original version of "Numb" and the Best Of mix are at least on equal footing, and the Best Of mix might just take the edge (pun partially intended). It's hard, if you're a U2 fan, not to light up when Edge's mesmerizing guitars kick in at the end of the latter; makes the tinny synth of the original lose some luster in comparison. Oh, but there's not enough liquor in the world for me to ever buy that the Best Of mix of "Discotheque" is better than the original...

I skip it too, when I actually listen to Zoorpa.

IMO Numb is their worst song:reject:

The thing I give them credit for with this song is that I thought it took huge balls to put that song and video out after what Achtung Baby had done for them.

Now I love Babyface. How can you hate a song about watching porn :)

i skip half of Bomb oh wait i sold that cd for like 4 bucks.
at least i still have zooropa and listen to it quite often.
numb rocks and the video is "the SEX"

Seriously, I only listen to the Best Of 1990-2000 now for the nostalgia factor; I received it when I first became a fan, so it felt like a revelation. Now I know it's a mediocre set to U2's standards.

Man, I never realized that Numb was hated this much  It's not my favorite on the album, but ti's definitely an entertaining song IMO

(and for the record:

1. The First Time
2. Zooropa
3. Dirty Day
4. Stay
5. Some Days
6. Numb
7. Daddy's
8. The Wanderer
9. Lemon

10. Babyface)

They're all almost equal for me elmel, I've really gone back to absolutely loving this album , but as I've mentioned before, I can't fucking stand bono's falsetto. Hence, it's kinda hard for me to love Lemon.

I guess I just listen to a whole lot of soul music, and the vocals sometimes get insanely high, so I'm used to it. :lmao:
