Well just like the official best of 1980-1990 doesn't actually include anything from 1990, my best of doesn't include anything from 2000. Or 1999 or 1998 for that matter. The really good collections are an album in themselves, not just a mix of hits (hits are important though, but I'll give up some hits for real album defining songs or live staples).

My collection of the 90's is a travel guide of U2's Europe in the last decade of the 20th century.

1. The Fly - We start out with the sound of four men chopping down the Joshua tree. They've since fled the scene of the crime, re-emerging in the dark and seedy underbelly of a restless Berlin on the knife-edge of their Soviet occupation.

2. Until The End of The World - The band find themselves on a roof top party in the late evening where they converse with one of the city's more prominent residents.

3. One - On the brink of losing each other to the winds of change coursing through the city, the boys reforge themselves over a simple cord progression and universal melody.

4. Zooropa - Whisked away on title track bullet train, U2 accepts their position as the vanguard of the Western media blitzkrieg gathering at Central Europe's borders.

5. Numb - The onslaught begins. Electronic signals and hip-hop beats invade Vienna's clubs.

6. Lemon - Mixed in amongst the revelry and interference of those heady nights, an undercurrent of meloncholy and wistfulness prowles.

7. Miss Sarejvo - Out on the street for a late marches smoke, the muffled bass of the discotheque pumping behind them, U2 hear the faint sound of mortar shells bursting in far away air.

8. Stay - While walking along the Danube docks in the early morning, leaving the clubs and sounds of war behind, the wet Hapsburg city begs them not to leave.

9. Discotheque - Abandoning Central Europe to its own devices, the boys shed upheaval and change in the clubs of northern Italy.

10. Staring At The Sun - Or so they think. Not even the swirling lights and crammed dance floors of Milan can purge their souls of places that have come before.

11. Gone - The night deepens. Milan's clubs get darker, its dancers more desperate. The red, blue and green lights fractured by the mirrorball spread yearning and lonliness amongst the packed, sweating crowd. The boys need cleaner air. Dawn breaks. It's time to go home.

12. Mysterious Ways - Heading west, U2 moves down along the Iberian Peninsula, pulling its rhythms with them as they go.

13. Even Better Than The Real Thing - They arrive in London, greeted and assualted by paparazzi camera-flash over culture.

14. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - They rail against and embrace their celebrity in the stadiums of the UK's Rock and Roll forum.

15. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (Temple Bar Mix) - But they retire from the public at last, finding refuge at home in the the rustic pubs of Dublin.

16. Please (Single Version) - Only to hear distant gunfire once again. Though the winds of change faintly blow...

Hope you enjoy the mix!!

It's titled "Pop Zoo Baby" btw. Not all that clever, but rolls off the tongue.

I would drop 2000s tracks, minus Electrical Storm, because every greatest hits album needs a bonus cash-in track (and ES sounds 90s-ish), and make the tracks be something like this:

1) The Fly
2) Stay
3) Discotheque (album version)
4) Miss Sarajevo
5) Gone (Mike Hedges Mix)
6) Zooropa
7) Electrical Storm
8) Staring at the Sun (Mike Hedges Mix)
9) Lemon
10) Your Blue Room
11) Until The End of the World
12) The First Time
13) Mofo
14) Please (strings version)
15) HMTMKMKM
16) Ultraviolet or Wild Horses
17) Mysterious Ways
18) One

I'm going with 15 tracks like in Tourist's 1980s Best Of thread. Feels more appropriate for a less productive, less good decade. 18 tracks would've been better for the eighties. And as with that time around, "fuck da classix".

The Best Of 1990-99: Up With The Sun

Disc 1: The Best Of The Albums

Forget the hits; here's the quality stuff.

1. Zooropa
2. Gone
3. Until The End Of The World
4. Acrobat
5. Stay
6. Beach Sequence
7. Your Blue Room
8. Last Night On Earth
9. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
10. The Fly
11. Mysterious Ways [musically re-recorded to have the live guitar tone and more of a solo, but using 1991 vocals]
12. Slug
13. Dirty Day [soundboard ZooTV fifth leg version with audience noise removed - why re-record it now when you can pass off a definitive live version as studio? I would suggest giving it the MW treatment if it weren't for the fact the 1993 studio vocals blow while Bono nailed it live.]
14. Please
15. Love Is Blindness

Disc 2: The Best Of The Miscellany

The gems and rarities to keep fanatics from drowning in the boredom of billions of remixes.

1. Lady With The Spinning Head (Extended Dance Remix)
2. Where Did It All Go Wrong?
3. Holy Joe (Garage Mix)
4. Take You Down
5. I Feel Free
6. Bottoms
7. I'm Not Your Baby
8. Night And Day
9. Alex Descends Into Hell For A Bottle Of Milk/Korova 1
10. Wake Up, Dead Man [the rockin' 1993 version]
11. In Cold Blood
12. The Wanderer [Bono on vocals]
13. Salome
14. Slow Dancing (full band sans Willie Nelson)
15. North And South Of The River

Disc 3: The Best Of The Concerts

Just like the eighties, this was where U2 were at their best. I'm interpreting this as the best live songs played in the nineties, not the best nineties songs played live.

1. Mofo (6 November 1997, Rotterdam [MTV Europe Awards])
2. Even Better Than The Real Thing (28 August 1993, Dublin)
3. Until The End Of The World (11 June 1992, Stockholm)
4. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (11 June 1992, Stockholm)
5. One (23 September 1997, Sarajevo)
6. Please (23 September 1997)
7. Bullet The Blue Sky (11 August 1993, London)
8. Running To Stand Still (11 August 1993, London)
9. Sunday Bloody Sunday (23 September 1997, Sarajevo)
10. Acrobat (August 1992, Hershey rehearsals)
11. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (31 July 1997, Mannheim)
12. Desire (16 August 1992, Washington DC)
13. Discotheque (23 September 1997, Sarajevo)
14. If You Wear That Velvet Dress (25 April 1997, Las Vegas)
15. Love Is Blindness (29 July 1993, Oslo)

1. Zoo Station -- but since it's a Best of album, it's a remix or something so that it's like the live version, with the full-on intro
2. MOFO
3. EBTTRT
4. Lemon
5. Miami
6. Numb (Best of mix)
7. One
8. Stay
9. Slug
10. Beach Sequence
11. Zooropa
12. Miss Sarajevo
13. One

It's a song Bono wrote during the Zooropa sessions. It nearly made the album, but it was so bleak that they feared it would send the album in a direction from which it would never recover. We don't actually have a copy of the song or anything, but its lyrics were printed in U2 At The End Of The World. Bono considered using it live on ZooTV, reciting it in concert or something, but obviously that never happened either.

Ah, now that you mention it, I do remember that part from ATEOTW! Thanks for the info.
