The final poll is closed.

The 1st Runner-Up, the Silver Medalist, of the competition, with 8 votes in the final poll, is Love Comes Tumbling. A round of applause, please.

And that means that the last song standing, finishing in 1st place overall, the Gold Medalist of the competition, the champion, your choice for U2's Best Non-Album Track, after six weeks, with 15 votes in the final poll, is Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me.

Thanks all for participating! I had a good time running this!

Thanks for your work nam. When can we do another contest !!!!? Any ideas?

Have we done a track survivor by album slot?

Here are tracks that should be higher in my mind

#27 - Party Girl
#25 - Fast Cars
#18 - Salome
#17 - Sweetest Thing
#7 - Luminous Times(Hold On To Love)

Ones that should be lower

#2 - Love Comes Tumbling
#11 - Stateless
#15 - Holy Joe
#21 - Summer Rain
#22 - Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad

That's a pretty excellent top ten. I'd modify the order, but barely change anything that made it. The biggest crime is that Wild Irish Rose didn't progress out of the heats.

As for another tournament, I liked the ideas of a Best Album Opener Survivor and a Best Album Closer Survivor. The former in particular would be really tight. Streets would probably win but I struggle to predict second place.

Is this where we post our personal Top 10 non-album tracks?

1. Mercy (original only)
2. North and South of the River
3. The Ground Beneath Her Feet
4. Salome
5. Invisible
6. Fast Cars
7. Down All The Days
8. I'm Not Your Baby
9. Stateless
10. The Three Sunrises

4. Luminous Times (Hold On To Love)
5. The Ground Beneath Her Feet
6. Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me
7. Invisible
8. Bass Trap
9. North And South Of The River

Inspired by the 'rank the 2000 albums thread' we could have a Track 6 Survivor. Pre-2000 doesn't have the strongest material either..

Forgot to vote - not that it would have a made a difference.

Thanks for running such a fun competition - it's a great means of going back and rediscovering all these gems all over again.

Best Album Opener and Closer would be a good one.

Or one where rankings or preferences are measured or taken into consideration.

Or perhaps the Album of the Year allocation of points system from the Bang and Clatter forum could be a possible method.

The problem with these is they would require a lot of manual calculating.

They hate track 6 apparently . . . a few exceptions in there.

I like by album position. Of course we start with openers

Probably the only slot on an album where October might be the victorious album.

We're probably too close to the start of the tour now, but, at some point, it might be fun to run a full Rate the Song Series or Survivor again. I ran both maybe three years ago or so.

What's wrong with having one going on during a tour again? Isn't that usually when the most people turn up (aside from album releases)?

That's not a bad question.

I'd say that the only real issue with having it during a tour is that the board can get a bit cluttered.

However, I also think there are benefits to the community of doing it during non-tour times. It keeps traffic up and keeps people interested.

Sent from my iPhone using U2 Interference

I thought the issue was new songs skewing the results, but there's no new album this time. Interference needs all the traffic it can get.

Since we're talking about more competitions we could do - I was thinking about running a Best U2 Cover survivor, since covers didn't compete in this survivor. I think I would only include covers that had studio versions, so that would mean no live-only covers like The Ramones' I Remember You or Bob Dylan's Maggie's Farm or Bowie's Jean Genie or the Beatles' Rain or whatever(unless someone has an objection to that). By my count there are 14 covers that the band recorded studio versions of:

Everlasting Love
Unchained Melody
Dancing Barefoot
Jesus Christ
Christmas(Baby Please Come Home)
Night And Day
Satellite Of Love
Fortunate Son
Paint It Black
Can't Help Falling In Love
Pop Muzik
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Don't Take Your Guns To Town
Neon Lights

So this could be done in two weeks and would be simple to run. I could start it right away if people are game.

Oh boy, that really will be "vote for the least worst" territory.

Dancing Barefoot and Night and Day are fantastic. Then there are a couple more that are competent. The rest are junk.

Would definitely be worth doing for a laugh.

I don't know that I would that many of them junk. Aside from the two you mentioned, I think Everlasting Love, Unchained Melody, and Christmas(Baby Please Come Home) are all quite good. Satellite Of Love is good, not great, but good. I also love Can't Help Falling In Love(though I'm still curious about the never-released version they apparently recorded during the R&H sessions).

Happiness Is A Warm Gun is probably my least favorite one here, only because I really love that song and the track sounds like they were too busy playing with sounds to actually try to play the song.

What about I Believe In Father Christmas? Some of my favorite recentish Edge guitar on that song.

Aside from that, in the more long-term, I had a brainstorm. I think there's been a Best Song survivor in the past that didn't include any singles. This was done to make it more interesting, i.e. so Streets/One/WOWY/Pride/etc couldn't have their guaranteed highest finish.

The problem with that is there are still a handful of non-singles that are absolutely guaranteed to make it to final rounds of such a competition. So I was thinking, what if we had a Best Song survivor that not only removed all the singles, but also removed those non-singles that are locks to be there at the end if they are included?

I am of course thinking of Bad, Bullet The Blue Sky, Running To Stand Still, Until The End Of The World, and maybe Gone.

Just an idea.

Didn't get chance to vote for the last couple, but here's my final 10 + 4...

Luminous Times

I kinda liked their Aslan cover, "This Is"

Love the covers idea.
Re album openers, the idea wasn't 'which of the openers is your favourite song'. It was, which does the best job of announcing the album it leads? Which is the best at being an opener? I can think of 5 or 6 that do that superbly.

Your winner; Dancing Barefoot.

We're done. Next Survivor.
