After the great thread on NLOTH, I started going back and revisiting U2's work, 2000 and on... And well... Damn if i wasn't shocked at how much i just don't enjoy that much. But, there is some outstanding work there. So i picked 13 songs, to make a nice complete album of 2000-2015 songs i would enjoy consistently listening to. It also showed me how strong SOI is, which is really cool.

I did the tracklisting pretty quickly. So tell me what you think, and also if you have any suggestions on a better flowing tracking. Or better yet, make a whole new list of your own...

1. Fez (Being Born)
2. When I Look At the World
3. Every Breaking Wave
4. Original of The Species
5. The Crystal Ballroom
6. Vertigo
7. No Line On The Horizon
8. Raised By Wolves
9. Magnificent
10. Kite
11. Sleep Like a Baby Tonight
12. Moment of Surrender
13. The Troubles

thoughts?

As for this thread in general, I like too many 2000- songs to make such a short "listenable" track order, unless I'm misunderstanding the point. I don't find any of the albums to be bad, or only worthy of pulling a few selections from.

That's a, uhh, modified abbreviation of This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now.

Can't tell if typo or intentional.
I was thinking that might be the case, but I'm confused how the word "around" got in there. I would probably just abbreviate it as "Reach Me Now" since TIWYCRMN might look a bit ridiculous.

And it seems another use wrote "Reach Around". I feel very out of the loop! [emoji81]

Thank you all!! I completely blanked on Electrical Storm and Ground Beneath Her Feet. The latter one being one of my favorites.

I think I would swap out OOTS for it. So now mine is:

1. Fez (Being Born)
2. When I Look At the World
3. Every Breaking Wave
4. The Ground Beneath Her Feet
5. The Crystal Ballroom
6. Vertigo
7. No Line On The Horizon
8. Mercy
9. Raised By Wolves
10. Magnificent
11. Kite
12. Sleep Like a Baby Tonight
13. Moment of Surrender
14. The Troubles

I don't find any of the albums "bad" either. But I have grown a bit tired of songs like BD and Walk On, Stuck, and others that I do really like, like Cedars, or One Step Closer... I enjoy listening to at times, but not consistently.

I just wanted to kind of pare down to the ones i would never skip. I could probably add 2 or 3 more SOI songs on there, cause i only really skip SFS on that album, but trying not to overload it with one album...

I have problem with your 1 & 7. Otherwise it is perfect on my book. And..... Every Breaking Wave you mentioned.... album version or acoustic version ? If album version then no problems. If not then I would put Iris or CFYT in place of it.

Album version of EBW for me.

I could happily listen to this mix. A best-of any of their four previous albums would demolish this though.

6. Wild Honey
7. Summer Rain
8. When I Look at the World
9. New York
10. Grace
11. Peace on Earth
12. Neon Lights
13. NLOTH
14. MOS
15. Unknown Caller

33. Flower Child
34. Native Son
35. COBL
36. Fez
37. Xanax and Wine (I hate how Bono says the title but it's a good song overall)

Album version of EBW for me.

Original "demo" version for me. I removed the album version from my playlist, it's the worst thing on there and I can't listen to it.

2. Every Breaking Wave
3. Magnificent
4. Kite
5. Breathe
6. Vertigo
7. Reach Me
8. City of Blinding Lights
9. California

4 - NLOTH
3- SOI
2 - Bomb
3 - ATYLCB

Going thru all the albums....U2 have made some pretty good songs from ATYCLB to SOI. Songs that really sound a classic U2 songs.

As a Stones fan you can't really say that about Steel Wheels to Bigger Bang.

Who gives a shit? They made the dumbest decision of their career by axing it in the first place, and another epic blunder in the rearrangement when they got rid of the best part of the song and substituted idiotic new lyrics in the chorus.

I'd say the dumbest decision of their career was the SOI release method, which far eclipses any gaffes regarding album song selections. That said, I dig Mercy and think it would have made a great addition to HTDAAB.

The release method wasn't he problem, it was the failure to realize that so many people had automatic downloads turned on and pushing it through instead of simply making it free for those who wanted it. Whether they knew this going in or not is still up for debate, and if not it's really Apple's fault.

They must of known this was going to happen. I can't see how they wouldn't know the full details before they signed up for the deal.

I'll stick to an 11 song limit due to their usual album length this century. For me, though, I consider All That You Can't Leave Behind to be their third masterpiece and really the wheels started coming off in 2004. They could still write phenomenal tunes, but would often let stinkers get out there due to poor quality control. Then they lost the ability to write phenomenal tunes, but could turn it a great album with similar stinkers. Then they lost the ability to even write good tunes, generally.

The Best of 2004-2014:

1. Vertigo
2. Breathe
3. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
4. Magnificent
5. No Line On The Horizon
6. City of Blinding Lights
7. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
8. Moment of Surrender
9. Miracle Drug
10. California
11. Mercy

HTDAAB (2004) - 4
"Unreleased" in 2004 - 1
NLOTH (2009) - 5
SOI (2014) - 1

Honorable Mentions - Love and Peace or Else, All Because of You, Fez-Being Born, Iris (Live)
