 Thanks for the info chocky, i just rang JB and got them put away for me...

For those trying to get them through Sanity/Virgin, I was talking to a girl this morning and she said hardly any stores will be stocking the deluxe editions. Only 2 stores in the whole of NSW (both large inner-city Sydney stores- so George St and I can't remember the other) and 1 store in QLD are only getting about 6-8 copies of each album. She never mentioned other states, so i guess either they won't be getting any, or only the inner-city stores in each state will be stocking them. Most stores will get a couple of copies of the standard editions i think. So my advice is go to JB HiFi if you can!

Good luck everybody, I can't wait to get my copies :hyper:

Just a quick off topic, where in hunter Valley are you from? I'm from Newcastle, just moved to Canberra at the start of the year

 I'm up near Maitland... I bet winter is a bit different down in Canberra compared to Newcastle

Freezing, -4 windy mornings are horrible! My girlfriend im living with down here is from Maitland, so ive spent a lot of time there!

Ive called JB in Canberra, and they have all three available for sale now at 49 bucks.

They say JB have permission to sell all as of today!

Amazing that with the strength of the Australian dollar at the moment (97.9US cents) that those prices don't come down a bit!

Not to rub it in, but it's nice and warm here today, early 20's

The woman at Sanity said there was a condition with the release and they couldn't sell before Saturday- strange how JB can sell it today...

The deluxe edition of Red Rocks is apparently going to be around $80 if the Big W website is true- so the strength in the dollar isn't making any difference.

War and October are on sale at JB HiFi city stores right now. No Boy though.

The War disk does in fact include the bonus tracks I Threw A Brick Through A Window/A Day Without Me and Fire.

I forgot to ask earlier chocky, do the deluxe CD's include the badge set, or was that only an online offer?

it was my understanding that the badges were an online offer.

Red Rocks can't be 80??? and Big W are usually so cheap with DVD's! I got Popmart special edition for $25.88 the day it cam out!

UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY - DELUXE EDITION (JAPANESE IMPORT) (U2): Music: BIGWentertainment.com.au

They currently have a Japanese import listed for $80, but all the recent remaster releases (Australian versions) have been listed at similar prices to the 'imports', so it's likely it'll be around $80...

I'd love to know what this is though :hmm:
BEGINNING - LIVE IN GERMANY 1983 (U2): Dvds: BIGWentertainment.com.au

Its listed as Setp6 08 release date???

Well thats one of the shows the UABRS Cd is from???

Maybe they will release both?? the plot thickens...

About Cartoon World from the National Stadium gig, I totally agree they should put out the whole show!

The quality is surprisingly good for one of their very first "big" shows. Alot better than the bootleg.

As far as I know, the CD will be available as both a single and a double and the DVD will be released separately.

No badges instore at JB - only internet pre-orders :(

There's one little annoying thing about the packaging of these new 3 compared to Joshua Tree: the CDs slot into the outer case left to right which is the opposite direction to JT. That means when you line them up on your shelf, they face the opposite direction.

But I'm loving Angels Too Tied to the Ground!

Did a lot of people buy the 2-disc JT? I kinda assumed that most would just have the book/DVD deluxe set. It will be annoying if that Amazon package is designed to fit the 2-disc JT and NOT something else (like UABRS).

U2 Under A Blood Red Sky CD

according to CD Universe, it's set for Sept 23. Don't know how reliable this is?

I saw that date on U2 valencia, and now atu2.com says

Our friends at U2france.com have more details from Universal Music about the upcoming re-issue of Under A Blood Red Sky. The label says it'll be released in France on September in three formats: DVD + CD deluxe set, single CD, and vinyl. This closely matches what Amazon.com is showing: a DVD + CD set and a single CD, both listed with a September 23 release date.

2)The Ideal Copy lists the War deluxe set with the two extra live tracks on disc 2, and it is also designated as the "US Release," so it's likely these tracks WILL be on the War set in all regions. Cool!
U2 - War [US 2CD]: The Ideal Copy

I received e-mail confirmation from www.idealcopy.com that the US version of War, which they have in stock, does in fact have TWELVE tracks on Disc 2. So I think everyone will have the same tracklisting. Whew!

Hi Don - yes, our track listing is correct on War, and I'm assuming the other two - but haven't checked those yet. War has 10 tracks on Disc One and 12 tracks on Disc Two.

cheers!

from nick,

why wouldn't under a blood red sky be two cds, what is the dvd, i am really hoping to get the live versions of seconds and two hearts beat as one on it, if it is just a single cd, how many more songs would be added on, any info is appreciated

The DVD will be the "Under A Blood Red Sky" concert from 1983/84. It has only been available via VHS (and on laserdisc way back in the early 90's). I think we're getting the whole Red Rocks concert...

from nick,

i am confused, wasn't the under a blood red sky vhs part of the red rocks show, i thought we are getting a seperate release of that show on dvd,

atu2 reported the red rocks show to last 171 minutes (two versions, one with commentary. at 85.5 min its probably the full show. As for seperate dvd release, not too sure nick, but i am assuming, in keeping with the consistancy of packaging etc, they will release the CD as it was, but remastered, and the DVD will act is the bonus "cd" of "extras" as on the previous remasters

Ideal Copy just contacted me on a message board of sorts to clarify that the US version of the deluxe edition of "War" will indeed have those tracks "Fire"/"A Day Without Me" and "I Threw A Brick Through a Window", so at least the UK and US are getting the same thing. Still more rarities instead of remixes would have been nice.

U2 - War [US 2CD]: The Ideal Copy

I am excited to get more versions of "11 O'Clock Tick Tock"; I've always loved that song -- much more than any Boy or October song. Also, to finally get "A Celebration" on CD will be nice, too!

This morning's Irish Times has a review of all three re-releases that is absolutely spot on (star ratings are out of 5): U2: The early years - The Irish Times - Fri, Jul 18, 2008

U2: The early years
TONY CLAYTON-LEA

Boy ****
October ***
War ***

It's a long time since we've seen hair on the head of U2's guitarist Edge, but there it is, on the back cover of Boy, one of three remastered and reissued albums that look set to plug the gap between now and the release of the band's next studio album.

The reissuing of U2's first three records (1980's Boy, 1981's October, 1983's War - on vinyl and in CD deluxe editions) raises an interesting point: why, at this stage, delve into the past when the band's best work began with album number four (1984's The Unforgettable Fire)?

Part inevitable music industry commercialism, part nostalgic navel-gazing, part dusting off old postcards and placing them in sequence, there is the sense that U2's fan base is getting younger, rather than maintaining its increasingly cynical middle-aged spread. Hence the re-issuing of these records in the lead-up to the new one, in the (perhaps all too justifiable) hope that historical perspective and sonic threads will interconnect very nicely with the new material.

Whatever. The fact is that after 28 years, Boy remains a remarkable record, an amazing debut, and quite likely the best, most instructive link as to what makes U2 tick. The songs still stand up, too, and Paul Morley's typically meandering-stream sleeve notes notwithstanding, the re-issue of Boy claims its stake as an "Important Release".

Not so much with October (sleeve notes by Neil McCormick) and War (sleeve notes by Niall Stokes). The follow-up to Boy still sounds too fraught with its blend of naiveté, fragility and frustration to fully work its way into life as totally formed; Gloria and the title track are the standouts, a still wonderful juxtaposition of the wide-eyed wonder of embrace messing around with the questioning nature of belief and faith.

War, meanwhile - with a more commercial sound and an underlying concept of struggle and surrender - went straight into the UK charts at number one. Cue the beginning of global dominance, Edge's hair loss, album number four, and the start of something else altogether. U2.com | U2.com

Download tracks: A Day Without Me (Boy); Gloria (October); Sunday Bloody Sunday (War)

My War set arrived today from Zavvi.

Just wondering if there are a few things missing in the War booklet -

In the rare and unreleased tracks section theres no mention of the history of Angels Too Tied Too The Ground + the bonus album credits the numbering doesn't tie in with the tracklisting and there no mention of Angels either.

Anyhoo, it's good to have it.:D
