For unknown reason, I thought the above song was sung by U2.

I had a friend who also thought this was U2 at that time! I can definitely hear it.

I thought for a bit that Van Halen’s “Can’t stop loving you” was U2. I have no idea why. I was 13 in 1995, and desperate for a new U2 album!

A million times this. Would have been a huge hit for them.

The first time I heard this I thought it was U2. But at the time, I was still discovering U2 and had only gotten up as far as The Unforgettable Fire in their discography, so I had no idea how Bono's voice would sound ~15 years after where I'd been. Seems silly now!

Local Boston band that got a fair amount of airplay with this song and lots of folks thought it was U2 at first listen...

Not 90s but I had been on this forum for about two years by the time I realised Don't You Forget About Me was not by U2.

That’s the most 90s thing I’ve ever seen.

Wow that is a pretty thorough imitation. Especially the lead guitar.

I always thought "Madness" by Muse reminded me of 90s U2.

What's crazy is it's not even by Simple Minds either; I mean it's a cover, that they came to resent because it was so huge, and probably by far their best known single.

90's:

There's more regardless of decade:

Of course U2 has taken SO MUCH from Bowie it's okay if he takes back.

I will follow!

I will follow!

In the end most people just want to sound like Bo Diddley:
